My long weekend started off with a bang. I had my truck sold and scheduled to be dropped off Sunday. So last night my son wanted to go the cruise inn one more time in it. So down the road we go, 30 mph, 175 water temp, 50 pounds of oil pressure, no smoke, no noise then the grenade went off. Brand new motor with less than 50 miles with a nice 2inch hole in the side.

Dang, sorry bro for the bad luck. But maybe she just didn't want to leave home Sunday. Maybe a sign to keep it and drop in a v8.

Sorry to hear that happened ,nice truck though hopefully you can salvage alot of your engine parts less block, crank and rod.

Well that really bites. A couple of observations:

1) I'd have a conversation with the engine builder, even if it means looking in the mirror.

2) If the sale went through and then the motor blew, who's going to feel worse -- you or the new owner? And which of you would have fixed it?

Probably just as well it happened now. I would imagine whoever was buying it would have been banging on your door if this had happened to them right after they had bought it.

Dang...but as said, better the day before than as the buyer drove away...talk about a sticky situation.

You say "new" motor...did you rebuild it or buy it?

Everything is cool with the buyer, he is a dealer who is very used to selling these old trucks. But if it had blown up on him the first time out I would have took it back, that's just how I am. The motor was a remanufactured marine spec motor built by Aarons performance. Large port heads, marine cam, and supposed to be bullet proof bottom end

But there is no warranty because of it being in a truck and not the original owner. But it may not be all that bad, I drove 7 hours round trip today to pick up a low millage 250 and I will put all the new stuff on this long block. So hopefully back on the road soon.

Are you assuming they won't stand behind the motor, or did they say tough luck.

A lot of businesses appreciate the opportunity to make things right when something was obviously done wrong...and some don't.

Either way, sounds like you have a handle on things...and you have a nice long weekend to get it done.

Thats the first time Ive evr heard of a GM six grenading a bottom end! Id love to know the reason, almost would not have thought it possible.

I would definitely call the builder. There are times I do work with "no warranty" because of certain reasons, but if something I did wrong fell apart I would still stand behind my work.

chevy six bangers just don't do that ! they must have run it dry of oil for a couple of weeks to test it then sold it to you

I was at a car swap meet several years ago REMEMBER SLICK 50 ? those people from the SLICK 50 company were selling that stuff saying that even after it had been in an engine the product was so good that you could drain the oil out of the engine and it would still run because of the awesome lubrication left behind by the slick 50 ,,, they had an engine on a stand running with a radiator hooked up to it but no oil pan on it

CAN ANYBODY GUESS WHAT TYPE OF ENGINE THEY WERE USING FOR THIS DEMONSTRATION ?

Ya...they are tough as heck. I had a truck that I got for scrap that I decided to see if I could get running after a few beers one night. A little gas and a fresh battery and she started up and ran pretty good. A few more beers later we decided to see how long she would run with no oil or water. The darn thing ran forever with a brick on the gas peddle full throttle. When it finally did decide to stop which if I wasn't to drunk was about 20 mins or more. And it Definitely wasn't an exciting ending she just started to run slower and slower till she quietly came to a stop. We tried to restart her with no luck as she was froze solid. Well a few more beers and a john Deere tractor pulling her down the road and jamming her in gear she broke loose. A little starting fluid and she fired back up being pulled in gear. She actually ran pretty smooth just didn't like to idle much. We did the brick thing again and did it all over again she didnt run as along but never did spit anything outside the block. My opinion on Your motor after seeing how tough they are is something definitely was put together wrong...an uneducated opinion...

I did finally get the motor pulled / replaced and sold to the buyer. The rod cap and one rod bolt was missing when I tore the motor down. I also found 2 other rod bolts that were stretched really bad, and a few more that were to loose. It was just a POS reman job on the engine.
