Moving bellhousing x-member

Has anyone successfully moved a manual cross member forward during a I6 to 350 swap? I got my old one out and tried sliding it forward but the holes don't line up. After searching on this site, I discovered that 6 cyl. and V8s use different members. What are my options?

1...get a v8 x-member...2...convert to an automatic,they don't use one....3...leave it where it is and install the engine back further(you wont have to buy a driveshaft)

We moved one forward when we put a 454 in a 69 frame. We had to trim a little off each end and then drilled holes in the frame to bolt the cross member in.

I was considering doing the same thing, but drilling holes in the member, not the frame. Just seems like doing that would elevate the back of the engine. I am going to try to locate a proper member on the parts board while I ponder fabricating/modifying the old one.

Originally my truck was a 6-stick, then someone changed it to an automatic and torched off most of the bell crossmember.
I have replaced the 700r with a muncie m-20, installed a tailshaft crossmember/mount rather than fool with the bell member. IMO---much easier!!!
