WTB; V8 Crossmember

I need the crossmember that supports the bellhousing on my 1971 chevy truck. Small block, cast iron bellhousing manual transmission. Thanks, Scott.

Re: WTB; V8 Crossmember

I have one that is out of a 68. I bought it without an engine but it had small block stands. $30.00 plus shipping. It is heavy so I am not sure what the shipping would be. Give me a zip code if interested and I will get pictures and a shipping price. Thanks

Re: WTB; V8 Crossmember

If your sure that's a small block member, I'll take it. Let me know the total when you figure it out. My zip code is 54481.
Thanks, Scott.

If anyone needs a I6 member, I'll have one for sale as soon as I get a replacement.

I am not 100% sure because I bought the truck without an engine and transmission. I did not know they were different.

Re: WTB; V8 Crossmember

If it had sb stands, then it must be the right one. Does anyone else know how to i.d. the difference between I6 and V8 crossmembers?

Re: WTB; V8 Crossmember

It looks like an automatic crossmember that would support the trans back by the tailshaft. I6 and sb are the same from everything I have seen. I don't think it is the crossmember that attaches to the bellhousing. But I could be wrong so maybe someone else will come along and clarify.

It has been a couple years and several truck ago when I took this truck apart and I am no positive and did not mark the crossmember because I thought they were the same. I will see what I can find out.

If you are talking about the one pictured above then it is definately a manual transmission crossmember that has the side bell housing mounts.

Re: WTB; V8 Crossmember

The member in the pics look exactly like the one I have from the I6 setup. If the sb v8 looks that similar (which I believe it would), You'd think GM would have id'd them so there wouldn't be a mix up at the factory. Mine has a stamp dead center when looking down, on the flat part toward the front. The stamp is a "s" inside a circle.

I can check it tomorrow for the stamp marking. I still have not found out anything. If you have not already posted a question on the forum, then I will. Thanks
