heater core
New to the site, so hoping for some help. I removed an old heater core from non-ac 67 C10. I installed new exactly the way the old came out (even took pictures), but now realize it's probably upside down. The 5/8" tube is now on top and 3/4" on the bottom. I think it was reversed from the factory. Will it make any difference, so long as I properly route my hoses? I would route 5/8" from intake to 5/8"tube on core (now on top) and 3/4" from water pump to 3/4" tube on core (now on bottom). I read elsewhere that someone had reversed theirs on purpose to avoid the crossing of the hoses. Hopefully I put this thread where it belongs, if not, would someone please let me know. Thanks for the help.

That's how it was from the factory.From what's been discussed on this site,GM wanted more hot going into the bottom with a restriction(smaller outlet) to help keep it from getting air and making noise.I turned mine over but that was to get better hose routing.The hoses on the fatory mounting direction cause the hoses to cross.

Has the heater worked ok in the upside down position? Any noise that you mentioned? Seems to me that unless something in the heater core is directional that it wouldn't make much difference. Hot water still makes it to the core.

Thanks for the responses, I appreciate it and the fact that now I don't have to create more work for myself by turning it over. I too think the hose routing is better in this position. Gets cold here in MO, so I didn't want to reduce heat to the cab.

The heater core has no directions on it that I have ever seen. Most engineer's will tell you to fill it from the bottom so all the air is pushed out. Other than that it doesn't care.

I was doing a motor replacement so I already had inner fenders removed. Still had to remove passenger side hood hinge to remove heater box. Actual replacement is easy, IF you get a good core replacement. Bought one from LMC which was nowhere close to original dimension and didn't include brackets needed to hold it in and originals won't fit over their core; too thick. Returned it and got another from Classic Parts, which was nearly identical to original and the original brackets did fit. Oddly, neither company provides the brackets so take care not to break them. Aftermarket gasket sets are not the best but if you take your time, they'll work.
