Steering box

My buddy is working on a 53 pu and putting a 350 under the hood. He needs to move the steering box outside of the frame. He is having a hard time finding a box with the right geometry to work. Is there anyone that has made this conversion and if so what steering box did you use. He is keeping the solid axle.
Thanks
Byron

Re: Steering box

Check into a Toyota 4x4 box, pre 86' with straight axle that is what you want.

Re: Steering box

It shows a Toyota 4x4 Box in an early F100 here but their frames are a lot wider so there may be exhaust interference on an AD truck. http://www.ford-trucks.com/article/i...60_Trucks.html

77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Re: Steering box

I'm also having this problem. Has anyone tried using this box? It's seems like it would be thin enough to clear an exhaust manifold, and might even bolt into the stock location (big maybe).
