Re: Best parts,who?

Rockauto is one of the cheapest places you will find. Ebay, craigslist, junkyards. Don't forget to haggle at the junkyards. Although personally, I have learned to avoid buying the cheapest parts. They often fail. I go with ACdelco or Motorcraft if I can. They have to be up to par with the automaker's warranty standards since its basically (usually) the same part that comes on brand new vehicle, and is owned by GM and Ford

Re: Best parts,who?

I tend to agree on the rock auto. However many times the shipping you can pay from rockauto can equal out what you will pay at oreilly, autozone, or advanced; that is if you are just getting a single part.
If im doing a large order of parts rockauto can really save some money, if all the parts are coming out of the same warehouse.
Ebay is always a good choice too.
I agree on the cheap parts. Even with a lifetime warranty I don't feel like doing the same repair a year down the road because of shotty parts.

A1 Cardone part number 32-107 is what you're looking for assuming I remember your truck correctly, ie a 78 model 3/4 ton with a 454 big block.

72.99 plus shipping from Rockauto

95 dollars from O Reilly's

95 dollars from Summit

Re: Best parts,who?

I've had good luck with Summit. If you spend over 100.00 bucks you get free shipping. I just ordered a bunch of metal for my truck and saved over 90.00 dollars between prices and shipping.

Re: Best parts,who?

I always check the following and stick with OEM parts. Some have free shipping over $25, $50, $100. I have had good luck with all of them, although sometimes even a Delco part is not of good quality (most everything is now made in China or Mexico, regardless of brand.)

www.oewarehouse.com
www.oehq.com
www.autopartstomorrow.com
www.rockauto.com
www.gmpartsdirect.com

Rock Auto is good for getting the exact GM OEM part number or Delco part number. Once you have the correct part number, check Amazon and Ebay - I have found some good OEM parts there.

LMC and Classic Parts are good for the parts that are not available elsewhere, but you always pay shipping.

Wherever you buy, do a google search for the supplier name and the word "discount" or "promo code" and you can sometimes find a discount. Rock Auto usually has a 5% discount code.

If a used part is ok, don't forget to check the parts board here on this site.

Re: Best parts,who?

I don't know how many of you are amazon Prime members. But something I have noticed with that: They generally make up the shipping cost with a higher price. Once you're a prime member, they reel you in with claims of "Free shipping!" even on semi-heavy items. But take one look on the very same website, and you'll see the same item for cheaper, but without the free shipping. That's because that item, perhaps from a different seller, was not Prime eligible. Its the same on pretty much everything Prime, but here and there you get lucky and it actually is free shipping.

Its really just a gimmick to get you to pay amazon $70 for a Prime membership, imo. Then, they suggest all these Prime eligible items to you first, so it looks like you're getting a good deal for your money. When actually, the same item somewhere else is cheaper, but they make up the difference in shipping charges. I've bought a Prime membership before, since I was buying SO much off of Amazon. But I doubt that I got my $70 worth of free shipping.

Re: Best parts,who?

Is it just me, or is it hard to navigate thru RockAuto's website? I can scroll thru summit, jegs, eBay waaaay more easier than RockAuto's.

Anytime I order anything I always google discount coupon codes before ordering.
