Will PS setup from 83 C10 work on 68-72 trucks?
I have a power steering setup from an 83 C10 that I would like to use for a 68-72 pick up. Does anyone know if this box & pump will bolt in?
Any info is appreciated. Thanks Scott

As I understand it the 73-87 body style box is a bolt in. I'm not sure what year the fittings changed to metric though. I've used early non metric fitting boxes in my trucks before. The pump/pulley/brackets will be for a long water pump and our trucks when stock are a short pump. I'm taking a guess but if you had the brackets and pulley from a 67-72 the pump itself would probably be fine.

Yep. I used a set up off an 85. Like said before. You will need pulleys and a pump bracket for the short water pump. I grabbed everything when I pulled it from the yard. Lines, pump, pulley's, steering box with rag joint and even the intermediate shaft(didn't use it tho). That way everything is off one system.

Dont be misled. You're gonna need more than just swapping pulleys and brackets on the pump part of the swap.
The later pump has a pressed on pulley, the earlier is threaded for bolt on pulley. The box however bolts on. Posted via Mobile Device |

This is correct. I have this set-up on my '67. Get EVERYTHING!!! Pump, box, brackets and hoses. Make sure you get the arm with the box as well, as it it different.

My dad and I pulled the power steering unit off of 73 Chevy truck and it fit my 1972 just fine. This was the sector at the end of the steering shaft. The pulley and pump came from a now long gone junk yard: it was (he thinks) a 1972 Nova.
