6.0 interchange
Im looking at building a 6.0 for my 1500HD and found one in a 2007 Hummer. Is this the same engine?

Re: 6.0 interchange
What year 1500HD are you working on? and did you happen to look at the 8th digit of the vin#? The VIN question will lock it down as a positive yes, but other wise I would say yes. With the exception of a few sensor changes of course. Jim

Re: 6.0 interchange
I have 2003, the Hummer is a 2007. I notice there is a 20 horse difference, but maybe thats from the cam or something??? I plan on freshening it up and adding a cam anyways

Re: 6.0 interchange
Yeah, it'll change over, pretty sure but it would be nice just to double check by doing a VIN# looky. Jim

Re: 6.0 interchange
The Hummer 6.0L is a LQ9, The 1500HD 6.0L is a LQ4.
The compression is bumped via different pistons. The camshaft is LQ9 specific The flexplate & spacer will need to swapped from the LQ4 to the LQ9 (the Hummer has a 4L65E, Your 1500HD has a 4L80E). |

Re: 6.0 interchange
the hummer used the LQ4 not the LQ9 the eighth digit of the vin is U. the LQ9 was in the escalade and vortec max truck the eighth digit of the vin is N on the LQ9 the LQ9 has flat top pistons with 10.1 to 1 compression and a little higher performance camshaft. the LQ4 has a dished piston with 9.5 to 1 compression and a slightly lower performance camshaft. the LQ4 has 325 horse power and 360 ft pounds of torque the LQ9 has 345 horse power and 380 ft pounds of torque even the gmc denali did not get the LQ9 it also got the LQ4. both engines have the cast iron engine block and aluminum 317 heads. all of my info comes from hollander interchange,ls1tech.com and wikipedia. i hope that this helps.

Re: 6.0 interchange
If you are looking to build an engine for your truck read through this article by super chevy when they sat down with GM's chief small block power train engineer. It is an interesting read.
http://www.superchevy.com/technical/...e/viewall.html What happened to your current engine?
