Do I have a rear end problem?

Yesterday I put my 54, with a 12 bolt rear end from a 70's Camaro up on jack stands to begin disassembly. When I put the lug wrench on the lug nut to remove the rear tire, the wheel rotated freely even though the Turbo 350 was in Park. Turning the wheels did not turn the driveshaft.

Does this mean I have a problem inside the rear end?

Thanks

No problem. Thats normal for an open differential. It's easy to bust them loose while its sitting on the ground, then jack it up.

Re: Do I have a rear end problem?

Yep, that's normal, You can either set the park brake or break them loose before you jack it up. I'd hate to count the number of times I had to let one of mine back down to break the lug nuts loose and jack it back up.

You could have had a helper push the brakes so you could break the nuts loose though.
