What's the single best mod you done to your 60-66 daily driver to make it more DD friendly?

What are some tools,parts or other things you carry in your Daily driver T5 classic truck just incase something happens?

What is your favorite thing about driving a classic vehicle as your daily driver?

What's your least favorite part about driving a old vehicle as your daily driver?

What is the longest you drove your DD classic truck?

Best mod - changing to 3:38 rear end, HEI, Weber Carb (in that order)
A few wrenches, screwdrivers, flashlight, Fix a Flat
Thumbs-up on the road from guys driving/ridin 40,000 dollar machines (they wish they were as cool as me)
No PS, No PB
Longest trip? Longest in years? (FWIW - I've put 18000 miles on mine since May 2012)
I'd remove all rust.....

1. HEI ignition (Weber DGEV is #2 since it wouldn't work to the level it does w/o the HEI in my opinion.)

2. Basic tool kit, spare thermostat houseing and gasket, gasket goo, electrical tape (on long trips I carry the timing light and tach/dwell meter since no shop on the road has one or knows how to use it anymore)

3. Getting 19.4 mpg on a 49 year old truck, and the looks.

4. Noisy 3 speed peanut trans, soon to be replaced by quiet T5 overdrive trans.

5. 400 miles round trip....

6. The noisy 3 speed peanut transmission.

1) power steering
2) jumper cables, flashlight, cash
3) fun to drive, nostalgic feeling
4) no air conditioning
5) about 500 miles round trip
6) paint/body work

1. 71+ front crossmember for disc brakes, 5 lug, and power steering.

Technically its "one" thing.

Best mod was the 4.8\4l60e I put in the truck...19.5 mpg and 70mph

I only take a jack and fiz-a-flat, oh and my cell "just in case"

Ill agree with the thumbs up from the "cool kids" in their McCruisers

least? I guess parking around all those McCruisers since they dont care about my vehicle, I park way out and it never fails some jerk has to park right next to my truck...grrr!

I drove it about 320 miles round trip last spring.

nothing, maybe paint her again, like a frame off type of paint.

Best mod was the 75 crossmember which got me disc brakes, power steering and a big camper special sway bar.

Good questions, thanks for posting. On my truck:

1. Power steering. It took two men and a small boy just to turn the darn thing and I frequently had to leave it out in the street because I couldn’t manage smaller parking lots.

2. Ours is equipped for something going wrong, but it’s also stocked with everything needed to pull over and have a good time if we see an opportunity:

a. An original style jack that will actually fit under the truck with a flat tire
b. Hand tools, X wrench for the wheels, and the key for the wheel locks.
c. A spare tire, a can of inflataspare, flashlight, and a fire extinguisher.
d. Shade tent, fold up chairs, and a fold up plastic and steel picnic table.
e. Paper towels, Windex, camera tripod, garbage bag, motor oil, and an ice chest.
f. 90 pounds of ballast/sand in 10 pound zip lock bags carried in a duffle bag.

Having a lockable hard cover makes it very convenient to haul anything we might need.

3. It provides options unavailable in a standard late model jelly bean car. I ride high enough to see over normal traffic. In small settings it always draws a compliment or a crowd. It is capable of going scary fast and accelerates hard enough to rocket out of trouble (or into it depending on the circumstances)! And I don’t feel claustrophobic in it like in many new cars where my hair touches the headliner.

4. It’s hard to steer when I get rubber in all four gears!

5. Approximately 1200 miles round trip to California on its shake down cruise after being apart for paint for over a year. As a commuter it covered 72 miles daily for most of nine years.

6. I would rewire the truck and install the fuse panel in the glove compartment so it would be easy to access and modify. Next to the clutch pedal is a miserable location when you’re old with back and knee problems.

Best upgrade: 4spd OD manual trans, combined with 3.42 gears.
Tools: I have a big road-trip box that doubles as my junkyard box, since my road trips often involve a good junkyard trip at some point. It's a COMPLETE kit... I can do anything with it. ANYTHING.
Best thing about it: being in the left lane, passing new cars like they're standing still.
Thing I'd change: rebuild front suspension and upgrade to discs and drop spindles. Paint, weather stripping and an interior would be nice too!
Longest trip: No idea... I've driven it 80,000 miles through 20 states, based out of Atlanta. It's gone to Texas, Florida, Michigan, Northern PA and all points between.
I just drove it to Toledo, Ohio last week.

Well my motor is from a 04 boat.its a 350 vortec. The p/o already done just about every thing motor wise you can think of to make it DD friendly.hei dizzy,elec fan,trans cooler,oil cooler

I carry jumper cables,craftsman tool set,bag full of wrenches,screw drivers, pylers, spare tire.

It's just not another cookie cutter car/truck on the road.more times than not im the only 60-66 Chevy truck in my town.I like thinking about who ever bought my truck in 65 and imagining what they we're thinking when they 1st seen it and drove it.wondering what all my truck has seen in the almost 50 years its been around.

The handling,breaks and steering in another words the lack of ps,pb

Im only had my truck a couple months so the longest I've drove it is about 30 miles when I picked it up from getting the 3.73 gears installed.

I would lower it and do the full pro touring treatment to it. full suspension,rims and tires the whole 9 yards

The best things I did was the 305 TBI engine- easiest and most dependable of these trucks I have ever owned. I also added power brakes(disc upgrade in near future) and power steering.

I carry nothing but a spare tire, jack and lug wrench. Figure unless I carry parts and can tell in advance what is going to break, I don't need tools. I like to be optimistic and not worry about breaking down when I travel.
