62 rear end swap?
I need to switch out a rear end of a 62 gmc. It has a bit later year chevy rear end. One was 54 inches wide the other 56. I would like to put a late 80s or even a 90s in it. Anybody know if these would be to wide? What would fit?

Re: 62 rear end swap?
A differential from a '88 and up truck is going to be way too wide. The original differential in your truck was 62" wide WMS to WMS (wheel mounting surface) That is the correct way to measure a differential, not to the backing plates. Different brake widths will change the position of the backing plate. Where the wheel mounts is what is important.
The C10 differentials were 62" up thru early '70. Starting in late '70 up thru the '86 C10 and '87 thru '91 R10/1500 differentials were 63.5", and had the 5 x 5" wheel stud pattern. The '88 and up 1500 differentials are about 64.75"
