Need to pull headliner. Need help.

The headliner in my 91 short bed Z71 is all pinned up and I need to just remove it. How do all the trim pieces come out. I have tried to just pull them out but have not pulled to hard. Do they just have clips on the back side that clip into the cab metal? Any certain process to remove it. Getting tired of looking at it.

Thanks. I have just been trying not to crack or bust the trim. I started to take a piece off that is above the rear window and it made a noise like I cracked it and I just stopped there. I will have to give it another go at it.

They make noise when they release , sounds the same when it cracks also
??/ (old plastic cracks easy) if you use a interior tool ( bent up on the end with a V shaped cut out in the middle close to the end)some of these are made of a plastic so as not to scuff parts??/ I use a windshield tool??/ Looks like a nylon burnishing tool if you know what that is ??/

I was just using my hands but I do have one of those interior screwdriver looking tools with the v cutout. Used for the plastic push in clips. I will try that and see what happens.

Kinda pull the trim out a little a see if you can see where the clips are located and the direction for on and off ?// ( limited space I know ) hay if the using you hands thing works??/ it might work better??/ I going to have to attempt this in the near future so keep me updated ??/ Did you already get the replacement material ??/ Also in that diagram there looked like there were some pieces screwed into the roof for the trim to attach to??/ they look like they have to be removed before the head liner drops down ??/ Have I'm going to put you on my friends list so I can find you later to find out how it went and what material you use if any ??/ Steve

Re: Need to pull headliner. Need help.

There is a place around here called Joanns Fabrics and they are supposed to have what they call headliner material. I have not been there yet but that is what I am told.

I bought the fabric that I believe you are talking about. It has a small laye of foam on the underside and then the fabric layer on top. If it's the same stuff, it will work well.

Re: Need to pull headliner. Need help.

I replaced the headliner in my 88 regular cab a couple of months ago. I used the headliner material from JoAnn Fabrics and a headliner spray adhesive from Advance Auto Parts. Total time from start to finish was about three hours. Total cost was about $25. I'm very happy with the way it looks. Just take your time. Follow the directions on the spray adhesive can. There are some helpful videos available on YouTube. Good luck!

Re: Need to pull headliner. Need help.

You might even be able to get away with just pulling the rear trim above the back window and the sun visors and then flexing the ends of the headliner to get it out from behind the side trim pieces. I've gotten good and pulling headliners and can get them out of most cars without pulling any side trim.

Re: Need to pull headliner. Need help.

I just call the headliner guy and pay $100. I figure by the time you run out and buy the materials you're giving him about $60 to do it and he pops that old brittle trim off like I unbutton my shirt.
