Where to buy??????????????

Ok I am at the point that i need to make a list of what to buy. I have the frame just about done and have all of the ball joints, tie rods, brakes and bushings. The body and inner fenders are at the shop and being worked. In a month I should be putting the body back on the frame and then start on the wiring. So I am trying to think of everything I need and where to purchase. I would like to purchase multiple items from each place to save on shipping.

Anyway, here is my list so far. Please add to it what you think I need. Also, please add where you would buy each item.

Thanks

Front to back:
Need a chrome bumper
Bumper brackets
Head light bezels
head lights
chrome turn signal bezels
hood brackets black
Hood to firewall seal
windshield seal
door seals
vent window seals
all of the "felt" channel stuff for the windows
rear window seal
gas filler rubber seal
full re-wire kit
a/c kit
bed bolt kit
I am putting in a diamond plate bed, so i do not need a wood kit.
Rear Lights
rear chrome bumper

That is all i can think of at the moment. Any help is appreciated.
Thank you

Re: Where to buy??????????????

Would not recommend buying much of anything from LMC
A lot of their stuff is all foreign made and cheap quality. Fit and finish is poor.

With the extent of restoration you are going after- buy once and buy quality. Don't necessarily shop for the cheapest price- try to get the best value. Many will chime in here and there are 1000 opinions- some good and some bad of different vendors.

The unfortunate reality is that there are so few companies actually making the parts that are available, that all you end up doing is shopping for price.

Probably one of the best for the rubber parts- Steel Rubber Products
For electrical- best value- American Autowire Classic Update Series Kit.
For A/C Vintage air or Old Air Products have Kits specifically designed for our trucks
Bumper brackets- I would get a set of original used and recondition them.

Just my opinion on a few items.

Re: Where to buy??????????????

Thanks

The extent of restoration is:
A frame off daily driver. I am putting in a 350 with a 700r4 trans. I put a 78 crossmember, discs, power steering, power brakes. 2005 Tahoe 40/20/40 seats, a/c and heat (probably vintage) and the bed is going to be diamond plate with line-x lining on the sides, front and tailgate.

I am going for the cool looking daily driver that is fun and comfortable to drive. Oh and I want it to last a long time without needing anything but normal maintenance.

Re: Where to buy??????????????

I agree with tincan1966 recommendations on those parts.

I would also add that truckandcarshop.com has been a great source of parts as well.

On LMC, I think they unjustly get a bad rap. Their parts are no worse or better than anyone else. Its not LMC, its the parts themselves. With very few exceptions the parts are all made overseas and are the same no matter who you buy from. LMC just happens to have a bigger selection that a lot of others so they tend to take more abuse because they sold the part. Remember, they dont make it, they just sell it. But LMC is still a good source for the little things like knobs, clips, fasteners, lenses, etc. I've only had good experiences with LMC with my 89 Jimmy.

I would also keep my list of things I need handy and check craigslist, ebay, junkyards/salvage yards, the sales board here, and swap meets. You'd be surprised at the deals that can be found when your least expecting them. Plus on a lot of items your better off reconditioning used/NOS items rather than buying new, such as bumpers or many body panels.

IMHO.

Re: Where to buy??????????????

I haven't had my truck nearly as long as other members but I can tell u that I have dealt with thetruckshop in orange, Ca and they are awesome! Great customer service and the pricing, other than salvage yards and swap meets, are good. I have called them on the phone and have had to wait a while tho. In person tho, great. I've also bought some stuff from brothers in California. Really good on the phone. On the "Hamb" site there is a guy named Todd from the east coast and he is a dealer of "Rebel Wire" great guy and Hambers get 10% off. I am yet to order my harness but people seem to really like the quality. It's American made as well. Hope that helps

Re: Where to buy??????????????

I would call Truck Shop in orange, order up all your stuff to make sure they have it all in, then just drive up and get it. Classic Industries in Huntington Beach also seems to have pretty good parts, sometimes better than Truck Shop.
I always like to be able to put my eyes and hands on the parts before bringing them home because sometimes things that are supposed to work won't or aren't what you're expecting.

Re: Where to buy??????????????

LMC justly deserves every bit of the bad rap they get, high mark up, poor service, slow, etc.

Classic Parts is good product and people from my experience, some Brothers stuff is good and you can watch them for decent sale prices.

Nothing beats original stuff though so be prepared to be dissapointed with whatever you get wherever you get it, it is not the same quality.

I agree with Thomas nothing beats OEM if you can find it. The guys at Brothers are cool to talk to and treat you good but if you place a online order and it's backordered they will not let you know the status of your order. Anymore I call and ask about availability, I'll never figure out how something that just went on sale has to be backordered? But oh well that's just big business I guess..Vernski

Re: Where to buy??????????????

Tim Tygerts Obsolete parts is another great source as is classic industries. I have used Truck shop with nothing but great stuff to say about them. Bowtie bits is another good company to use and they frequently have OEM parts for sale. I don't use classic parts anymore since my last bad dealing with them. Wasn't an issue with parts, its their customer service that needs work. I also agree that NOS or OEM is definitely the way to go, although that can make it more costly and more time consuming to find and acquire parts.

Re: Where to buy??????????????

I bought my stuff from muliptle places..

Brothers Truck - disc convert, chrome bumpers & grill, headlamp bezels, park light bezels ( fit was kinda crappy), mirrors . some parts went back ordered.. no big deal except for mirrors.. BO for 6 weeks. bumpers seem to fit ok. only issue i had was. Brothers advertises that their parts are US made.. but when my mirrors when BO, I called them after 4 weeks.. guy on phone "just waiting for your parts to clear import and customs, them we can ship them to you" box gets here.. Made in Taiwan !!!

Classic Parts - Door handles, door control, misc parts. Fit and Quality.. Great.

BC FAB - Air ride kit.

Re: Where to buy??????????????

Brothers trucks is a great place, but they'll mess up your order pretty easy. John from there is a member of the forum though so be sure to PM him once you place your order so he can walk it to the door and verify you got everything you ordered. Without his help I've had them mess up every order I've ever placed.
I put him on two of the orders and both of them got fixed with no hassle at all. I'd order from them again with that caveat.
