bag

I have been reading about airbags for my 65 chevy. I'm on a limited budget so I figure if I can either find a kit for just the front or if you guys can post some links or tell me what I need for just the front I'd piece together my own kit. I know bags, lines, compressor, tank but will any bag work or does it have to be a certain size cause I found firestone bags for 80 a piece and then I need this metal plate that makes it so I can mount the bags onto my stock control arms.as for lines, compressor and tank Idk yet.I'm asking now so I can a head start on this im going to be doing lots of searching, googling and reading up on it.for right now I'm cutting the coils but my ultimate goal is to get airbags under it not just for lowering it but for the handling and comfort.links would be greatly appreciated if you just so happen to know off the top of you're head a BUDGET front airbag kit for a 65 chevy truck please post it.

Re: bag

More often than not, when you try to put all the parts together individually, you'll spend more than waiting and buying a complete kit.

To do it right and make it last, you need:
either D2500 or 2600 bags
CORRECT mounting brackets and hardware
lines and fittings
compressor
air tank
control valves
switches and gauges
air line dryer/filter
shocks and relocater kits
adjustable panhard bar for the rear
possibly a one piece driveshaft -- may have to modify driveshaft loop
replace and /or upgrade ball joints and tie rods( in order to work with the extreme angles)

An improperly built air ride, or any suspension for that matter, is EXTREMELY dangerous. You should not just throw a set of bags on a 40+ year old suspension without making some changes/upgrades.

It gets tiring to hear, but do it once and do it right- mainly so you don't hurt yourself or anyone else with a parts failure.

Re: bag

I agree with Tincan, but I will interject this, you dont have to go all radical up front. you can do the front and and just dont air it out, then do the back when money allows. You can also do the bags with schrader valves until you can get the $ for the compressor and tank. I also caution you to do it right and take care of the worn parts first then do the bags. Call these guys, they will help you out.

Re: bag

Idk how I missed that site but 72 dollars per bag is a great a deal.I guess air bags are a lot like your home compressor when it comes to the air dryers and the Schrader valves is almost like a air shock.you fill it up and leave it that way then you lower/raise it by adding or removing air from the bag.I hope both bags hook up to one line so one isnt fuller than the other.

Use individual lines, you hook your bags together and it will roll side to side.

Re: bag

Agreed. Teeing them together will only exacerbate body roll in a corner.

Re: bag

I did the bags in the rear only, have a short ( 18") line to a schrader valve that is hose clamped ( kinda) under the rear fender. I usually dont have to fill either one up but if I would, they are very easily reached and filled. I would think you can do he same for the front, also I have drop shocks and i will get shock re-locators for the back when I have the cash.

Re: bag

Firestone bags are usually Sleeve bags, which is pretty much the lowest-end thing you can put on. They just aren't as good as a convoluted (sp?) bag from structure, ride, pressure holding ability, durability etc.

Re: bag

That will set you up fine for the front, and you can bag the rear for the price of the bags and schrader kit, just drill some holes and bolt them in.

Re: bag

I built my system piece by piece.. It was the cheapest option for me. I learned the hard way not to Tee them together.. I got some of my parts from WayLow2 if I spelled his name right.. I went with paddle valves and that has been perfect and have been using them for the last 3 years.. Virtually no leaks. In the next year or so, I would like to bag the front of my truck too.. The only thing I will need to add is two more bags and a new paddle switch/gauge setup for 4 bags. You can look at what I have done on my build page.
