My '54 3600 build
So here we go.
I'm guessing this is going to be a long process, but I'm really excited about it. Found this '54 Chevy 3600. Plan is to keep it mostly stock. I will add headers, dual carb intake, maybe a cam. Convert to 12V, change out the rear end to get rid of the 4.56 gears. Then just change some little things, mostly cosmetic. Bringing her home. Some beginning shots. |

Getting her stripped down.
Found a set of Rochester B's that I rebuilt. Here is the before and after. Before and after of the Gauges. |

Re: My '54 3600 build
Looks like a good solid truck. I am using a 3600 frame for my build also and these frames are 6" narrower at the rearend than a 1/2 ton frame. I know you plan to keep the truck fairly stock, but if you change your mind, by moving the springs you can put some 32" Mickey Thompson tires under it without changing the frame.
Also, LMC has the rebuild kits for the rear springs if you need them.

Re: My '54 3600 build
Thanks for the info.
I'm also going to be lowering the truck a little. Planning on removing 2-3 leafs all the way around, and putting some slightly lower profile tires on my new rims. I'll be happy with about a 3" drop. Finished my emblems. I love the metallic blue color, so that's what my "highlight" color for the truck will be. Plan is to sand the whole truck down to bare metal and clear coat it. |

Filled the gas hole.
New angle iron for the bed front. Finished my grill for the most part. Would like to fill in the lettering with the metallic blue. Working on my torque wrench shifter right now. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: My '54 3600 build
Time for a little update. I've been bouncing around with the truck since I can't stay financially focused on one task.
But, I finally got the cab off, but there's a lot less room in the garage now. I was able to move some things around and make more room after the pic was taken. Found a Ford 8" rear end for it. Got the old perches off, and new ones all lined up and welded on. Just have to add the shock mounts. Been slowly stripping the engine down. Got the valve cover painted. |

Re: My '54 3600 build
Got my HEI conversion about done. Original collar ground down, and slip collar added to let the shaft sit deeper into the block.

Weather gave us a little break today, so I pulled the truck out to start cleaning up the frame, and re-building the front suspension.

Re: My '54 3600 build
Figured out a way to run a little cleaner looking parking brake cable, with new cables and end connections.
Got the frame and engine done. Now I need to find a gas tank. Last edited by Hogger54; 01-26-2014 at 08:52 PM. |

Re: My '54 3600 build
Been making some progress.
I've got brake lines run, shocks mounted, and fuel tank mounted with line run. It's crazy with the size of these trucks, that I had to search for a gas tank from the smallest cars. Ended up with a Suzuki sidekick 11 gallon tank. Had to pull the in tank pump, and convert the efi tank to non efi. Just hope it works. Working on the front brakes now. Got new wheel cylinders, and shoes. Now I need to look at converting to roller bearings. Then it will be on to the cab. I've got the cowl panels for both sides, along with the inner panels that sit behind the cowls. |

Re: My '54 3600 build
looks good, yeah with the 3600's the frame is more narrow than the halftons. You can see by the difference in the leaf setups. anyway, I have a 16g tank and I never fill full, you'll be fine. I'm sure the pickup will work out for ya.

Re: My '54 3600 build
HI Hogger
I am waiting for my 1951 (1 ton) project to arrive to start working on and I saw you had an 8 lug truck you were working on. So I gotta ask where did you get brake parts and front end parts from? I am planning on rebuilding an old farm truck like an old farm truck that is it....I can find 1/2 ton stuff but the larger trucks I am not having luck finding stuff for it. Thanks for any insight.
