Speedo Head

my speedo is not working(dont know how fast I'm going). had it checked and cable is good but mechanic is saying the area where cable goes in is rounded out and thats the problem. does that sound true and get that be fixed?

Is it rounded on the speedo head or the trans? If its the speedo, you will need to get a parts speedo or have it rebuilt. There is a small plastic gear in the speedo head that will occasionally break. Had this happen in my 63 a few months back. The speedos are not very hard to take apart and fix. I believe Bow Tie Bits can rebuild them and they sell rebuilt units also.
