Need help putting a location to this wire....
Subject truck is 72' C-10 with the 250/3OTT. I have a new engine harness that I bought from one of the vendors here on the forum. Its nicely built and looks really good. I have identified everything on the harness except for one wire. Its a large pink, looks like a 12G lead with a connector that is similar to an HEI but is not. I have been digging thru the schematics and the location or use has eluded me. My assessment is electric choke? The wire is wrapped into the section of the harness leading across the engine over to the points distributor. It makes sense but I expect to be wrong.
http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/...psdcc1f609.jpg Here is a picture where the connector goes in to the fire wall. Its the double pink set, 2nd from the right on the top row. http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/...ps27a470d6.jpg What is it and can it be repurposed to supply power for an HEI distributor? This harness is so simple yet this one lead has been bugging me. Thanks in advance. 88Ironduke

Re: Need help putting a location to this wire....
Thanks but those are the easy ones to pick out. I'm looking for the purpose of the large pink wire. It is tied to the same location on the firewall plug as the distributor ballast circuit. I can't find the pink wire on any schematics.
Any one else? 88

Re: Need help putting a location to this wire....
looks like its for hei. Is there a cloth white wire in the harness? If not its for hei if you do have the ignition wire and the heavy pink one is tied into it at the plug then its for hei. Pink is for hei in later model trucks with factory hei

In GM language, pink is always 12volt switched, so you could use it to power HEI or choke

Re: Need help putting a location to this wire....
if you have upgraded to a HEI ignition then you should get rid of the yellow wire to the starter, that was for extra power while starting with the old set up and you should not be hooked up to the resistor wire that went to the old coil, your HEI will not get the full voltage required.

Re: Need help putting a location to this wire....
The truck has been upgraded to HEI and does not have electric choke. The cable end looks really close to an HEI connector but it is slightly different. I have the correct connector so worst case I'll solder it in place and call it good. I'm pretty sure it was intended for electric choke but I have a manual one. Life is good.
Thanks 88Ironduke

Re: Need help putting a location to this wire....
My pink wire goes to the elec. choke. Its a 72 350 with quadrajet, so I don't know if this is valid for your truck. But I suspect your initial guess was correct. I would post a picture but cannot get it to work, even after downsizing it.....
