Did power steering equipped trucks get a different inner fender?
I ask this because when my dad put power steering on my truck he used a power steering sector from a 1973 and he ended up cutting part of the driver's side inner fender away to make room for it. Sine I want to use my 1967 inner fenders now on my truck, I just wondered if they'd fit.
Will inner fenders from a manual steering truck fit a power steering truck? |

Re: Did power steering equipped trucks get a different inner fender?
i dont think so, the gear box is under the inner fender, mine has PS , there is a pattern for the steering rod to go through, but all hoses are underneath the fender

Not to high jack but could someone post a pic of the inner fender on factory P/S trucks? Mine was also converted to P/S and it looks like trimming may be required. This could be helpful for everyone wanting power steering.

Re: Did power steering equipped trucks get a different inner fender?
I have neatly cut away the top section over the Gear Box. Way easier to get at and it does not look trashy. But it would be noticed by a 67-72 owner.

Bad radiator mounting pads will cause the front sheetmetal to sit to low and allow the inner fender to hit the PS gearbox. If your cab mounts are bad also it can make it slightly worse.

Ah well thanks guys! I am in the process of replacing my radiator core support to frame bushings so that should help there.
Fitz, Where did you get your flex hoses coming off your power steering gearbox? |

Re: Did power steering equipped trucks get a different inner fender?
I made them using Aeroquip FBC400 high pressure (3000 psi) hose and Aeroquip high pressure fittings on the pressure side and the same hose with ordinary screw clamps on the LP side. When you cut that hose you need to wrap it really tight with tape over the cut and use either a die grinder with a cutoff wheel or the ends will fray.

Re: Did power steering equipped trucks get a different inner fender?
Inner fenders/wheel wells were the same but the engineers designed the original hydraulic lines for power steering to go under the wheel wells. Lots of carefully designed bends on them.
Most trucks that have been converted and even some that originally had p.s. have had the hydraulic lines replaced -usually with later year ones. I'd be surprised if someone is still using the originals.

Re: Did power steering equipped trucks get a different inner fender?
Could somebody post a pic of a factory equipped power steering truck where the P/S gearbox and lines and inner fender all meet? I want to see if it looks different from my setup on my '68. Thanks.

Re: Did power steering equipped trucks get a different inner fender?
Yes, thanks. Now I can compare it to what I have. At the moment, my inner fender is removed so it will be a while before I can compare. Does anyone know what the difference would be? The fender cut differently to allow for the gearbox/lines? or is it bent differently in that area? What should I be looking for?

Re: Did power steering equipped trucks get a different inner fender?
When I changed my manual to power it hit the inner fender bad. Come to find out there were no bushings at all under the core support. That explained the bang when I hit bumps. Inners are getting painted right now and bushings are in place so I guess things will go alright now? Although they are repops... Probably fight them anyway!

Re: Did power steering equipped trucks get a different inner fender?
Get all the fasteners started before tightening any of the down, then tighten each one a little at a time. That includes the drivers support bar.

I cut mine like this and edged it with a piece of fuel line
