Drums to Disc! Question for my next step?
I've pulled the front end off my 69 and just got disc/front end off of a 71 sand blasted and about to paint and installed!
Next step: ? What year should I pull the Master cylinder/booster off of, or where should I buy them from? Online-Auto Zone...?? I'm also looking for general INFO on how to hook up and..... New to the game you might see or read on my profile! Thanks! |

auto zone should have what you need, that way you would start with new parts . make sure you have the right prop. valve for the disk brake set up and get new front brake hoses ...good luck on your project .

Re: Drums to Disc! Question for my next step?
I don't know about on 2wd but on a 4wd 1970 you have to replace the front hard lines as they are routed through a different location on the frame to hit the calipers.
Shop using same truck but 1971 for the year. They sell proportioning valves but they are wicked expensive, they really don't go bad as their job is to restrict fluid flow so if you can find one in a junkyard you can clean it up and toss it in. I bought my replacement parts from rockauto.com and they were a great deal, just watch the warehouses they ship out of, sometimes they mix them and you pay extra in shipping... |

Re: Drums to Disc! Question for my next step?
I just finished up doing this swap except mine was a 1987 front end and here is a list of what I used.
Master Cylinder - Autozone 1972 C-10 Part# M1505 Price $27.99 plus core Power Booster - 1968 GMC (Mine already had power brakes.) Prop Valve- From donor vehicle I routed my rubber brake lines like the 1987 truck had its line through a hole in the frame on the front side of the crossmember. I also ran all new hard line which I bought in pre flared sticks. If you need anything else on this just ask. Over all this swap was pretty much simple I spent more time cleaning up the donor parts than it took to put it all together. I am not sure if the 71 front end was like the 87 if so they came with two different brake router options and depending on the rotors will depend on what calipers, brake hoses and wheel bearings you will need. |
