Th200r4 Vs 700r4

What is the difference between a 700R4 and TH200R4

the gear ratios are different. A 700 is .70 overdriven, and a 200 is .67. The first gear ratios are different too, I think. They claim that 700's are stronger, yet the 2004R was in the 87 Buick GNX and held up.

the 4l60e is an elec. trans shifted 700r4 the fist gear is a 3.07 http://www.ptsnctb.com/ these guys build 9s. 2004r trans that with stand up to nos and turbos check them out

gear ratios:
700R4: 3.06,1.62,1.00,0.68
2004R; 2.75,1.57,1.99,0.71
in stock form most 2004R trannys are weaker than the 700R4 but built for the same price the 2004R is somewhat stronger the advantage i liked about the 2004R is that it's a direct boltin for the th350 all that is required is moving the crossmember back to the th400 mounting holes, you use the present driveshaft with no mods the speedo cable with no mods a very easy reliabe swap to do 35000miles sofar no problems

A few things not commonly said about teh 200 4R...
It is the same length as a TH350 short shaft, but the tranny mount is in the TH400 location. The bellhousing on 99% of the 200 4R has a daul bellhousing set up so it can go on Chevy motors and all 'other' G.M. engines. This tranny also uses the same yolk as a TH350 does.

so does this mean I can replace my 3 speed with a 200r4? without cutting or changing the driveshaft? which ones are strong enough for a big ol burb, or do I need a built one?

Not sure if you'll be able to drop it in without modding the driveshaft.
I THINK the 200 came in only 1 length with a non-removable tail cone (so you wont see one in a 4x4) which may or may not be the same length as your current trans.
I don't know if there are 'good' years for the 200's like there are for the 700's or not.

If you caould find a turbo buick in a junk yard or in the classifieds, the tranny is stronger than the "run of the mill" 200 4R.
If you have a stock engine, and you don't drive it like you're at Indy...it should live no problem with proper set up.
If you think you are John Force and launch at eery stop light...you may wanna upgrade it a little before doing it.

depending on the tail shaft of your th350 you can swap in a 200r4 I just did one, you do have to move the crossmember back I believe about 5" as the pan area is larger. driveshaft yoke is the same.

Right...a short shaft TH350. The cross member goes into the TH400 location. Holes should be pre-drilled.
