Trucks @ Texas GoodGuys

OK truck guys, time to show what your made of. In only one week we will be in the Lone Star state, and we'd like to see Trucks be the dominant force out on the track. So, to help get you out of the lawn chair and put your truck in the autocross, we'll sweeten the pot. Not only will you exit the track with the biggest smile since Texas beat Oklahoma, but, if you stop in and see us, get a No Limit Sticker and put it on your truck, We'll give you a brand new, never been worn, No Limit Hat. Yes, you'll need this to stop from blinding your friends with those pearly whites, as you won't be able to get the smile off your face from how much fun that was. We'll even go one more!!!! (I know, how can this be) If you and your truck are Fast enough, Tough enough, and Smart enough to WIN the TRUCK CLASS (Don't start cryin yet, Josh, Rob, and Smitty are in the Pro Class), -AND- you were cool enough to put a No Limit sticker on your truck BEFORE your FIRST runs of the weekend, now get this, we will PAY YOU back your $55.00 entry fee. (Fifty Five cold hard U.S. dollars. Guaranteed to be accepted at any trackside beer stand) Think of it, You could get paid to drive your truck at a GoodGuys event. On top of that, Chris and Rob will be on hand to help you with tuning and driving tips. Think of it, a great time, the envy of your friends, money in your pocked, and a new cover for the thin spot on your noggin.

Not sure who she was but I believe she piloted the R.Berman (sp?) built/Summit Camaro too.

I and wifey was there Saturday. Enjoyed seeing the No Limits trucks run and meeting Rob. Was not that impressed with the rest of the show though. Can't wait to get my '70 on the road now.

What vehicle equipment/modifications define the groups and what is the designation of each? I guess "pro" is self explanatory.

It was a decent sized course. Chris has video footage on his facebook page of one of his runs if you want to watch. You can search Smitty's and it should come up.

Yep, that's me in front of Chris's truck. We were discussing caster/camber I think. Chris's truck has our WideRide IFS, and Fatbar 4-bar, on RideTech Shockwaves all around. Chris swapped from the C10 IFS to ours just before the Indy GoodGuys, and is still getting used to the turn in (much faster than the OE) On sunday I drove it, and was really impressed. I ran a 68.9-- on a check out pass. Definately has the HP!! After some driving tips about getting it through the corners, and how to "flick" it, Chris ran a 67.4-- before lunch on sunday. That would have been fourth over all. Great build quality and finish, and a really predictable driver. NICE

The class breaks at GoodGuys are pretty simple. For us "Truck" guys, go straight to the truck class.
"Pro" is a little different. There are three ways in. 1) Sponsor cars. Any cars or trucks owned by companies that sponsor the GoodGuys autocross go in the Pro class. Like RideTech, Summit, DSE,..... 2) The top points winner in each segment of the Pro class (Hot Rod, Truck, Street Machine, and overall) move into the Pro class the next year, and stay there as long as they're in the same vehicle. - thats how I got in. 3) Win your class at a Goodguys national event. Like Andy Halliburton did this weekend in Texas. He won the Truck class. So, if he goes to another GoodGuys event this year, he will be in Pro. - Next year, he'll move back to the Truck class.
Chris 'Smitty' Smith is so far up in points for Pro Trucks, that he will automatically start out in the Pro class next year.
Being in the Pro class is a blessing and a curse. You get the best pit spots, without having to get up too early, and you get a few more runs in the weekend. But, the crowd is a LOT faster, and it's a LOT harder to be in the top ranks. Most of the guys, and gals, are a fun bunch and we have a good time racing together.

Re: Trucks @ Texas GoodGuys

Hi Rob,

How much clearance between the differential cover and the fuel tank does there need to be to fit your Fat Bar Four Bar you mentioned on Chris' truck. The reason I ask is that I don't want to have to replace my fuel tank to get more clearance. I have a whopping 2 inches. (picture 1) A few years ago I put a LS motor in and went with the Blazer 31 gal tank for fuel injection reasons. I also put a Ford 8.8 rear from a crown vic in and it has a very short watts link type gizmo on the front of the diff. (picture 2) The watts link moves off axis with the slightest rotation so I'm not quite sure how that would work. The crown vic links are about 24" long and any I might build would need to be only about 16". Any insight?
