Longbed Stepside Opinions.... :)

Ok this may be opening a can of worms, but I am just curious. What is everyone's opinion on longbed stepsides?

Personally, I absolutely love mine. I've only seen a handful of others in person. Mine is a 68. The trucks is dirty from sitting, and the pics are from getting moved into my new house.

I've done a full disc brake conversion, with power steering and brakes. Painted the entire frame with new bushings. Stripped every last wire, and gutted the interior. Bought a painless kit for. The truck is currently bagged on the cheap, which will be alleviated by the pics below, thank you CPP!! I've got a long way to go, and it's a slow process, but I want to do it right this time.

My grandpa bought the truck in 68' and, after a short stint with my alcoholic uncle, it ended up in my possesion in high school. I proceeded to do what I thought were "good" changes in high school, which I am now repairing lol.

What do you all think of the longbed stepsides? I don't plan on changing it, I am just curious. Also, with the bags, I am trying to find a way to finish off the bed so it looks good. I will have a pipe notch in the frame, and possible raise the bed floor an inch or two. But, what whould I do about the rear step/bumper once the rear 4-link is finished?

Pics below:

can of hard working whoopa$$ imho. A long bed stepper says WORK. To me they just look "right," with one foot in old school and the other in the fleet side classics...in other words, the best of both worlds. And yes, I am definitely biased.

i think they look weird but I can see the usefulness of that big step on the side. Low and mean it might look cool though. definitely different.
but who cares what anybody else thinks.

lol love it man! It does just look "right" to me, it always has. If it was a longbed fleetside when I got it, I would have cut it by now. When i've got the truck laid out (on ball valves atm) it looks great.

The front suspension will be done here in about two weeks, then I am going to fab up a 4-link for the rear. Cannot wait man, slow and steady for sure.

Never been my favorite, but then again didn't see em too often. But I'm getting to like them more and more now that I see them on this site. In other words my opinion isn't important but it is still evolving...If that makes sense..

Makes perfect sense :P

When I had a buddy helping me out on some parts a few years back, he would random send me text messages of him holding a torch to my frame telling me he was going to make it a SWB lol.

I like long steppers better than short ones for some reason.

Re: Longbed Stepside Opinions.... :)

I'm a step side fan for sure, and I do like the longbeds. Like others have said, they just look right.
I have an older neighbor two farms over that still has his green longbed step side sitting beside his carport. It's a 68 or 69 he bought new, but I'm still gonna ask about it. It's got the side mount spare too, I dig it. It hasn't moved in 6 years or so, and he's been mowing around it...

I like them. The only time I care what other people think is when I take what I know they don't like and show them how good it can look. These guys with TV shows some idolize didn't get there by following the herd

There doesn't seem too many still around. I like mine because it's not something you see all the time. Nothing wrong with a shorty, but Im keeping mine long and extra heavy.

Stop thinking about it and sell me that bed for my '72 K2500. I'll be down in October!

I like pickups throughout the years and a Stepside at one time was just what a pickup was. Fleetsides, even though more popular, were an afterthought. Nothing says tradition like a Stepside. Nothing says utility like a Stepside. Remember, these are trucks, not cars,so that's a good thing. They don't make them anymore,so that lures me all the more. They can look cool slammed and all that, too. Some people like having what everyone else has and some like to have what you rarely see. I'm the latter.

Re: Longbed Stepside Opinions.... :)

I like the fact that most of us truck folks can appreciate all trucks. Thank GOD we all don't have the same thing! It is great that we can find good things about a bagged 67 shorty and yet find a 71 427 C-60 grain truck that we can't live without. To each his own, every truck seems to have something special about it. All the best ,Dirk

Re: Longbed Stepside Opinions.... :)

I've always liked the longbed fleet trucks, especially the longhorn, but I've never cared to own a long step. They look weird to me. The do look better with the factory mounted spare, kinda hides the awkard gap.

Re: Longbed Stepside Opinions.... :)

I love them. I´m actually trying to find one, but a K20 or K30 Chevy or GMC with manual trasmission. But no luck yet! Even the 9´box one tons would be cool!

So if anybody hears of one for sale, let me know please! I know they are rare but I WANT ONE!!!

Not my favorite, but I can't say any of these trucks are "ugly". After seeing your pics I thought white would be a great color, and the other pic of a restored white one confirmed this.

Re: Longbed Stepside Opinions.... :)

Mine is a 68 gmc long stepper as well,I get many people asking about it because they've never seen one before. My truck gets used so I like the extra room in the box.
