Removing front clip as one piece ?

I'm getting ready to do an engine swap on my 84 and want to remove the front clip to make things easier and clean up the engine bay. I see pictures all the time of them as one piece (some craigslist photos) and was wondering if you can pull it as one piece or if they just bolted it all back together after they removed each part.?

Yes, there are threads on this board that document how to do it. Here's a couple:

Re: Removing front clip as one piece ?

Just as an aside: when I started at Chevrolet Flint Assembly in 1979 there were two separate assembly lines: Line 1 was Pickups; Line 2 was Blazer/Suburbans.

Line 2 installed the front ends as a "buck build" - like you have shown in the photos above.

Line 1 installed the front ends "piecemeal" - first the radiator support, then the LH fender, then the RH fender.

So - I'd figure either way should work, depending on your inclination and skill set. Me? I'd put it back on one piece at a time. It will be easier to fit each component (ie, fender to door gaps, then hood to fender gaps).
