Replacing heater control valve

I've got a 87 gmc sierra v1500 that I need to replace the heater control valve on it. I can see the part but have no idea how to get it out. Ive got an chilton manual but it doesn't show how to swap it out. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Replacing heater control valve

Are you talking about the blend door in the heater box or the control on the dash?

Re: Replacing heater control valve

Sorry. I'm talking about the one in the heater box. With the ac on it doesn't blow as cold as it should when I serviced the ac. I out some clamps on the heater hose and it blows perfectly cold now.

Re: Replacing heater control valve

I it's called the blend door? Just had it all apart on my 81 K35 crew, the ac is mostly disconnected on this one.My problem was that the temp control wouldn't slide over either way far enough, turns out some mice had made a home in beside the blend door.In order to get at this, the whole heater/ac box has to be removed from firewall, then the rest from inside the truck.I first dropped my inner fender down, there are bolts on the bottom that are really tough to get at otherwise. Then the glove box comes out & the blend door box is able to be removed from inside. There might be something inside notvallowing the door to completely close.I guess maybe before removing the heater/ac box, pull out the glovebox & see if your door is moving freely. You should hear it close when the hot/ cold lever is moved too.

I'm kinda like duct tape- no real purpose, but handy to have around.
