whats up with 69/70
Seems there are far fewer builds and for sale. I love the grill on the 69/70 and was just trolling the for sale board and the builds and theres not nearly as many compared to 67/68 and 72.

Re: whats up with 69/70
doesnt have CHEVROLET embedded in it though. LMC has that one for around $300 as well. Gotta have that embedded name
was the name factory or was it an option? |

Re: whats up with 69/70
The grill for $900+ would be an original GM I believe. I've never seen them for THAT much. I think around $500 at some places.
Brothers is too expensive on mostly everything IMO.

Not to change the story, but Classic Industries has inside door handles for $110.00. OK, they could be originals from the factory, but come on!!!!!!! That is way out there?

Re: whats up with 69/70
I think many people like the 67-68 front end the best. Then comes the 71-72 and the 69-70 comes in last. Therefore, lots of 69-70's get converted to 67-68 or 71-72. Just like all the steppers getting changed to fleets. When I was looking for my truck I really wanted a 67-68 but ended up with a 70 and I briefly thought about swapping front ends to a 68 but ultimately decided to keep it a 70. All about preference I guess.

Re: whats up with 69/70
I have a 69 cst and I love the 69 grill although it one of the more expensive grills to replace. I have to replace mine and am dreading it because I want the one with the stamped letters too but dont think I am going to chunk down 5-900 bucks for one. I think ill settle for the smooth one!!

Re: whats up with 69/70
The 69/70 grille imho is on par with the 67/68. You can keep the 71/72, and all that plastic. That is.... If the 69/70 grille has been properly restored and painted. If a 69/70 grille has sat since it was new, the paint will usually be gone, the headlight buckets will be rusted or faded, and the inner grille will be faded. That looks like crap, so I think people go another route. If you treat it well, it'll treat you well
Here's another option if you can only find the non stamped grille. For like 8 bucks, brothers sells vinyl adhesive chevrolet letters. Here's a pic of mine. Mine has an original stamped grille, but the letters inside are the black vinyl. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: whats up with 69/70
Personal preference. Just talking me here, but if the 69 and 70 style grills were all that our trucks came from the factory with I would have never gotten in to them. I don't hate em, and there are lots of nice looking rides here with that style ... they just don't work for me.

Re: whats up with 69/70
I like all the Chevy styles from 67-72- Rock them grilles folks! A fella on here did a 72 grille with a 67 style hood and that looked rather nice too. A bit of cutting and welding though. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...223158&page=19 check out # 471

Re: whats up with 69/70
When I got my first 67-72, a 68 GMC it had sat for ten years after the po died. The battery ate a hole in the battery box, inner & pass side fender and core support. Thinking I liked the C-10 look better and not being able to find a GMC core I rebuilt it as a Chevy. I did keep the 4 eyes buckets and planning returning it back to a Jimmy...

Re: whats up with 69/70
67/68 is my least fav. I like 69/70 on lowered "fast" trucks. I think the 71/72 is a good all around works for anything grill.
Yea its all personal I was just a little surprised by how many fewer 69/70 restos I saw. There seem to be many more 71/72s out there for sale as well. So I think Ill start planning on a 72 with the front discs already there and throw a 69 grill on it. Im moving into a new shop so Its time to start filling it up |

Re: whats up with 69/70
Last year I bought a 69, 1/2 ton big, block with air, yellow and white, just a neat old truck, and I got a mediocre deal on it. I paid the guy, loaded the truck, and he says wait a minute I've got some parts that go with it. He comes out of the barn with a NOS inner AND outer grille and some emblems and trim.

Re: whats up with 69/70
Everyone is different I guess. It's the 69/70 grill design that got me into the trucks and I still love them the most.
I'd say my least favorite would be the 71/72 due to it being a big vulnerable piece of plastic. Amazing how any survived. I don't dislike their look (I have one in fact) but the 69/70 is better IMO. I have 2 69's and have replaced the grill surround with the plain repro and used the stick on letters. Looks good enough for me and saved me $200 each time.

Re: whats up with 69/70
Just to chime in... I prefer the 69/70 grill but it has to be factory. Even the NOS grills are different as I have yet to find one that has the bars that go all the way to the bucket. Unfortunately, its the 69/70 grill that got me into these trucks. Second or tied for first almost would be the 67/68 grills. 71/72 grills I like with the fold away headlight mod, otherwise its just too much unbroken space. All in all 67-72 just about says it.
cheers! Nim

I prefer the 69/70 grill over the others. Probably because I learned to drive in a 69.

Re: whats up with 69/70
It's all about preference. A true 67-72 Chevy truck lover likes them all. For years the popular favorite was the '72. With the current burst of newbies the mentality has shifted to 67/68s for the more car-like slanted hood. The 69/70s get the least love,I guess, because they are in between. They lack updates the 71/72s have, yet aren't the earliest all metal front end.I've had quite a few and don't care what anyone else likes. Whatever they are when I get them is how they stay...unless it's a ground up creation from parts, which is what my current '71 Chevy titled SWB framed,'72 cabbed,'67 GMC nosed project with '65 Pontiac transmission and '68 327 is. There may be some 69/70 parts on it...maybe the one bedside that I'm filling the side marker hole on

Re: whats up with 69/70
I have no idea how the production numbers compare 'tween the years. Maybe there were fewer 69/70s made? Mine is a 69. Not really by choice but that's what was available when I was ready to buy. This grille is fine but I could just as easily go with one of the other years grilles. They all look good.

Re: whats up with 69/70
My grill is a "factory replacement" grill I bought from Matt's Classic Bowties. Fit well, just needed a little tweaking, and didn't realize that all these repops required me to un-rivet and re-rivet the mounting points back on. Thought it was just the one I bought, but it seems like they're all that way.
....and yes, I am aware that the front bumper is wrong for my year, I'm going to mount driving lights there. :P

I like the looks of all the 67-72's but definitely like the 67-68's best.
