Another 71 project
If anyone is wondering why my LS truck is on ebay there are a couple of reasons. The first one is that I'm a much better builder than I am an owner. Seriously, I can't have nice things and I miss my beater. I washed that truck maybe six time since I finished it and it is too nice a truck for that kind of treatment. The second reason is I found something to keep me occupied this winter.

Re: Another 71 project
Possibly. Now that I know for fact I can't own nice things, this truck will be for sale on completion. It will cost just as much to get the Northstar in and running as it would to go LS from scratch. On a positive note, due to the effort involved adding turbo to the Northstar would be negligible.
Opinions on Northstar or LS?

Re: Another 71 project
I did some cleanup and inventory. This was bought as a truck and a pile of parts in two separate transactions. Some parts had to be assembled just to get it onto a flatbed and moveable - Everything is new, here is what I have......
Assembled Complete Air Ride front/rear suspension CPP drilled/slotted four wheel disc brakes Tubular motor mounts Tubular trans cross member Aluminum gas tank Boss 335 wheels (need spacer on front to put center caps on - not sure I can use) 295/50/20 tires rear (HUGE - need to put fronts on rear and get smaller for front) 275/45/20 tires front (see center cap issue - will have to decide if I want to use these wheels and tires or get something else) Not assembled tilt column 3' gas filler hose (this stuff is expensive) inner rockers outer rockers cab corners cab support (only one on truck is rusted) windshield gasket back glass gasket door weatherstrip dash pad cover (probably will not use, prefer new pad) side window felts side window channel (2) viair compressors (will probably only use one) (2) five gallon air tanks (will probably only use one) dual air pressure gauge for suspension giant box of fittings and controls for air ride plus lots of hose driveshaft (will need to get cut as it is for a short turbo 350) door panels (for a 72, can't use) arm rests (for a 72, can't use) black sun visors black seat cover sliding rear window (don't know if I'll use)

Re: Another 71 project
Sorry for that long post. That one was mostly for me, I'll try to keep them shorter and use more pictures.
I have a spare room in my basement I literally have not been into in years so I decided to fill it full of parts. The passenger fender is shot and possibly the passenger door, I'll strip the door down before I decide. Luckily I can get oem replacements close by. Everything else is usable. Check the footprints in the dust, told ya I haven't been in that room. Plus the windows were open the whole time!

Re: Another 71 project
I've been getting some things done, but have not been full steam ahead by any means. I have everything prepped to get the major cab rust finished off only it was such a nice day I only got a couple of pieces tacked in before running off to play.
The last one is what happens when you cut on the wrong side of the tapeline

Re: Another 71 project
I also wanted to pass along a couple of tips I picked up on.
I always thought tin snips were about useless until I found this on youtube. My favorite part is how quiet they are. I also picked up this video. No matter how much you think you know you can learn something from this guy. http://www.metalshapingzone.com/

Re: Another 71 project
The decision has been made, I scored a 6.0/4l80e combo for $1000 delivered! Now I am officially out of room in the garage.

Re: Another 71 project
I'll be following along. I'm really liking the 6.0 swap. Great score on the combo.

Re: Another 71 project
Any updates? I am about to build a 6.0/6l90. I have heard of several different places to mount the motor, stock location/6cylinder location. I would like to use the factory a/c compressor if possible?

Re: Another 71 project
I've been low on motivation for this one. If you follow the link to My Truck in my sig I have a 5.3 in the stock location with the stock 5.3 compressor running to the factory 71 AC. It works ok, but if I was to do it again I would also use a modern condensor for best results. I'm also jealous of your 6l90e!

Re: Another 71 project
I ran out of motivation on this one and have it up on craigslist. I'm in the process of starting a business and don't have the time to mess with this one.
