I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Are there any discussion threads on here with comments about running one of these? Sure seems like it would be nice to be able to run my exhaust thru there.
Are they worth the money?

I have the ece cross member and like it. You can always take a hole saw to yours and sleeve it to save money

The nice thing about them is they also have the trailing arm mounts flipped for improved pinion angle on a lowered truck. I plan to install one when I swap out rear ends.

I'm running the CCP cross member with the exhaust running through them. Works great, my exhaust does not drop below the frame anywhere except way out back where it exits.

Anyone have pics of their crossmembers cut out, or aftermarket? I've been toying with the cutting method, found a couple tubular, and other aftermarket crossmembers, but wasn't sure exactly which way I wanted to go.

I just cut 4 inch holes through mine with a torch. I admit it is only temporary untill I get the tubular one, It does the job but not near as clean as plasma or hole saw. If you want to save money cutting in the original is ok, if you want to go nice and clean then get the tubular. I myself was worried about cutting in the original and still having crossmember integrity but seems to be doing just fine.

@jmorri34, that was my thought too. I have my ls1, but can't seem to bring myself to buy the transmission. I know when I get the trans, I'll need a new crossmember, driveshaft, torque converter, etc... I would like to get my exhaust done now. I'll get all the other crap next feb when the next build phase kicks in.

I welded a 4" ring to accommodate the 3" pipe. This helped strengthen the crossmember.

If your just looking to get by now and your not going 1/4 mile racing with it and dont care about the aspect of it being original then I'd just cut it. ts not taking out that much metal in the grand scheme of things so it wont hurt the truck any. I got 15.5s on the back of mine and I just cruise and dont have problems with mine.

Yeah I have no plans on drag racing this thing, just don't like that ugly exhaust hanging down.

For $50 more I think I would go with the Porterbuilt cross member...way more options for dialing in your rear end. Does anyone know if there is a lead time on these?

I really like the porterbuilt as well, if I go that route I am definately goin with them. As far as search goes, Make sure the bullet is on the 67-72 chevytrucks spot and you will get all the posts easier, beyond that if you are Im not sure

The Porterbuilt trailing arm crossmember I posted is great for mild bagged trucks with a 1-piece drive shaft.
Lots of room for cycling the suspension.

They also make a trailing arm crossmember for extreme dropped trucks with a 2-piece driveshaft that has a carrier bearing mount.

And even a 4-link or leaf spring crossmember that allows room for the exhaust to pass thru with no trailing arm mounts.

how did you get the member in with out cutting all 5 rivets out of the both ? did you spread the frame

You've gotta remove the rivets in order to change out cross member. It went in easily and didn't have to spread the frame
