Lost placement on gearbox.
So the gearbox on my 71 was leaking power steering fluid so I removed it and replaced the seals where the steering shaft connects. When I did this, I marked the relation to the pitman arm buuut... my marking was not made good enough and rubbed off when I was replacing the seals.
I know I didn't move the gears too much as I did not dismantle much of the gearbox but I've also never messed with one of these and am unsure what I should do. Is it typical that being off by a small amount can be adjusted during an alignment or do I need to do something more here? |

Re: Lost placement on gearbox.
The pitman arm will only go on one way in relation to your truck. Actually it goes on in 4 positions but none of the others are anywhere close.

Re: Lost placement on gearbox.
Spin the steering wheel to the center between locks. Spin to one lock slowly then to the other counting the turns. Divide by 2 and spin back. Put the front wheels straight ahead. This will give a rough center to the gear box. Next, put the pitman up and see what goes.

Sounds easy enough. I'm glad I didn't screw it up too much. Thanks for the advice guys!
