HELP! Cab to frame bushing problem.

Oh wow....today the truck beat me.

I was trying to put in the new bushing assemblies on the driver's side today. The rear one went in just fine but the front one....

it's just not lining up right. When I force the bolt down with a wood block, it rubs the side of the upper bushing so close that I cannot use the metal sleave.

I assume the metal sleaves are pretty important.

What should I do here?

*Right now I only have the driver's side of original bushings out (front and rear). Did the cab get out of alignment? What should I do?




*In the pic, I have the upper bushing out of the bracket hole, you can see how far off the bolt is....maybe 1/4" alignment issue between bushing sleave and cab floor.

Loosen the other side if you haven't already including the front radiator support mounts. Also i replied to your post in the "what did you do to your truck today " thread.

Don't feel bad the stormy weather has been kicking my ass trying to work on my lift kit install too.

Thanks man! I wondered if I should do that. Will loosen others tomorrow.

After you loosen the other mounts lift the cab slightly with a floor jack. You should get some wiggle room... Sometimes a little push on the cab may help, especially if you used a roller jack.

My other front bolt is still tack welded in. I'm going to grind that weld off before continuing.

My dad suggested dropping a big punch down from the cab into the bracket and pushing it forward a bit. Would that work? (I only need about 1/4 inch of a move).

That bolt should be a 9/16", iirc. You could pull it out and open up the hole in the floor to about 5/8", or more, as there is room ( the hole is much wider than it's opening.) That MIGHT give you a little wiggle room to manipulate the bolt...

How do I know? Because I opened up the hole and used a 5/8" bolt... I have a home made body lift and wanted a larger/stronger bolt to hold it.

Out of curiosity what do your body lines look like regarding the front fenders and hood to where it meets the cab? Is it possible that maybe the fenders are holding you up on being able to shift the cab? wondering if its possible that thru the settling and rotting process of the last 40 years if it maybe tweaked the front clip a little? do you think that if you removed the front clip then you would be able to push that cab around a little? Ir even if you were to loosen the fender bolts it would allow you to jog it around a bit?

I know just throwing ideas at you to help you find an answer.

Keep throwing ideas at me, because that's exactly what I want. I will look next time I get a chance.....if I recall correctly one fender-to-cab gap is wider than the other and even on level the driver's side door would close on its own. So I might should remove the front clip to get this cab lined back up?

The only other possibility i can think of is if the truck was in a wreck and the frame is tweaked..

But from what i understand its only a few bolts holding the clip to the cab and the radiator support body mounts which you should already have loosened up, should be a 2 man job to lift off?? I never did it before.
