would you do a heater delete in Indiana?

I've searched a couple ways with no real answers ......So I'm not building a daily driver, just bringing an old truck back to life. Thinking about taking out the heater box out and cleaning up the firewall. I live in Indiana and am wondering if you think that's a good idea considering the weird weather we have here. I worry about the defrosters the most. Anybody done this and wish they hadn't?

Re: would you do a heater delete in Indiana?

You could always get one of the heater/defrosters that plug into the cig lighter for emergency use.

Here in NC I get plenty of use from the heater in the winter, but mine is a semi daily driver.

Vintage Air makes small heat only units that could be installed under the dash and still have a smooth firewall.

I agree! I would only do a heater delete if the truck would never be driven again other than the occasional parade or car show.

Re: would you do a heater delete in Indiana?

I was in Indiana December 24th and it was 16 degrees. Yeah I dont think I would delete the heater. Even if you only drive it once in a while, you never know if your DD dies and you have to drive the old girl. Better safe then sorry.

Not a good idea for winter, and not a good idea for those other times of the year when it's not real cold, but cold enough and rainy and your inside windows would fog up like crazy without heater vents

Not trying to be smart but have you lost your mind.I live in the south and I wouldnt do one. Unless you have a good inverter for a good electric heater.

Just joking but I wouldnt do it. I have been up there with 8'' snow on the ground. then one time i was there in early summertemp.51 degrees at 9:00 am. Too cool for me.

Re: would you do a heater delete in Indiana?

Well the 3 vehicles I currently drive combine for over 780,000 miles so no trailer queens here! Thanks for responding, it would look good but I think I'll clean it up the best I can and keep it. I've seen a few firewalls smoothed with the lines running in, is that Vintage Air system or a do it your self deal? Thinking of building a small in cab or glove box unit....if it snows the Subaru will be on the road not the C10.

Re: would you do a heater delete in Indiana?

North Dakota here and we don't have heat in our '72 Blazer, but it's not used in winter. Only time the top is ever on is to keep the snow out of it. Do I wish it had heat? Yep, but it's not the end of the world. Our is a bit of a different case though, It's more of a mud truck/play toy/sunset backroad cruiser. The big block and Boggers were more important than heat to us.

Re: would you do a heater delete in Indiana?

I live in SC and I had the heater cranked up last night on the way home!

Most of the smooth firewall units you see are likely vintage air, or old air, etc.

Re: would you do a heater delete in Indiana?

All the expense and work depends on how much you want a shaved firewall.
