Whats up with this 4500?

http://winchester.craigslist.org/cto/4049772506.html

I've never seen a smaller M/D with a front end like this. Was there any special options for this?

Re: Whats up with this 4500?

These Medium trucks were GMC style up to about '69. They were lighter duty versions of the 7500 Series and had narrow fenders with lighter axels. I believe they also made 5500's and 6500's. After about '69 or '70, GMC started making them like the Chevy Mediums we all know.

The truck above in the C/L listing is actually in pretty nice condition.

Yes it is nice. I never realized that they did the different body style on those series trucks. Puts my C50 to shame!!

Re: Whats up with this 4500?

I wish I had $2,500. The line between light truck, medium duty, and heavy duty blurs year to year with with the size over the 30/3500s. Like they had an identity crisis. I have my eye on a '61 C40. Back then they had the same cab as 10-30. Then in the 67-72 design they went to the larger platform, but there was a 11,000# axle option on the 1t that gave the rear axles/front hubs a 40/4500 would have, like a 60-66. Not too clear about 73-91,but I think they offered heavier axle options on the 30/35s. In '92 they came out with the 3500HD,which really should be called a 4500. Then, they went to the 4500 when they started using Vans for cabs.

Re: Whats up with this 4500?

By the location and style of the Directional Lights, that truck is either a '68 or a '69. Another good example of the earlier Mediums.

BTW, the truck in the C/L ad above is also a '68 or a '69.
