Has anyone used the front spring shackles on the rear springs of an AD? Or know of a reason not to?They are about an inch shorter and I am looking for as much drop as I can get with the smallest block possible.

I've never tried it or given thought to doing it but it should work. Since you most likely won't be carrying a load you don't have to worry about the spring eye moving back and forth with loads like someone who plans on carrying loads on a regular basis.

I'm not sure if this is what your thinking or not but on the '46 I know many have changed the spring perch at the rear of the front spring and used it at the front of the rear spring. I'm not sure if it can be done on the AD or not but on the '46 it gives you about 1 inch drop with no notable pinion angle change. I think the frames are the almost the same.

The length of the shackle is not meant to raise or lower the truck. The shackle swings as the spring flattens. If your shackles are too short the truck will ride like it has no springs at all.

Lower it with a spacer between the axle housing and the spring with longer U-bolts.

You can use the rear mounts of the front springs for front mounts of the rear springs. Take them off and turn them around and switch them from side to side.

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
