Power rear slider idea - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Okay, If you don't like cutting the dash, you probably won't like this one either, but has anyone ever heard of or ever put in a power rear slider? Not one of those ones that slides to the side, but a big window that slides down? Something like the suburban back windows? If anyone has you have any pics? Thanks

bet using one of the motors from a cadi limo you can make one easy enough!

I've seen kits before, but not sure if they were for the 67-72 chevys. It has been a long time since I've seen the kits though. I'd look through the magazines at the news stands.

I have been thinking about this same mod for about a year now. you an I are on the same track. using a later model burb or blazer back glass motor. and finding the right weather stripping. I think I was looking in jc whitney for that. the rest would be all fab work. I dont see why it would not be that hard but I would like to try it on a diffrenet cab first. plus I dont have the time.

I'm gonna do that on my truck. just the how hasn't come to me. I thought about using parts from a modern Toyota 4-Runner as the rear window in those roll down. I've drawn up a few sketches but can't find any. If anyone has done this or has ideas...i'd love to hear em.

If I ever get another truck, I will try doing this. I too was thinking that a regulator from a sub would work well for this. Would the side glass weatherstripping be sturdy enough or would you need to get some weatherstripping with metal in it? What do you guys think?

I started a frame for this but hav'nt worked on this for months (no time). The main thing is that the back window angles back(not strait up and down), you will have to have the whole thing recesed into the cab compartment to get the mechanism and window to go down

I used old door channels welded together to get the frame, this way you can just use door glass sealing strips.

I remember seeing those in the early 1980's, the glass and frame was sold as a kit. A friend of mine that owned a body shop installed one...Looked cool, just didnt catch on.

They didn't make them for these trucks becuse of the in cab tank. I had a dealership deal with them back in the 80's

I think I remember them more for the mini-trucks in the 80's.

How about using the mechanism and tracks out of a power moon/sun roof and somehow attaching the glass to that mechanism. The ones on Mark V pull the glass away from the seal first then retract it into the roof. Still a lot of fabbing, just another idea.
