Bad, Bad, Bad Snow Storm Here!!!

I am going on 24 hours with no power. 7'-8' snow drifts outside my house and out to the county road 300 yards up our driveway. Giant cottonwoods are down, at least 4 I can see? No heat! But, I can get to my garage to work on my 1970 truck!!!

Re: Bad, Bad, Bad Snow Storm Here!!!

Been seeing that on TV, crazy stuff for this time of year. FOX said 44" in Lead, I think they said it was the 4th worst snowstorm ever recorded out there, no matter what season. Ever recorded. And it's only early October. Prayers for all out there, hope you have minimum problems without power, hope you're prepared for it.

I hope all works out. Is it getting warmer now? I was at Carlisle with upper-80s heat (unusual) since Wed and I heard about this. Too bad you can't burn those downed trees till next year, even if you have a wood stove.

Re: Bad, Bad, Bad Snow Storm Here!!!

Crazy is it not? I can't imagine snow in October. Although stranger things have happened. I'm praying for you guys. I know it has to be a bummer. Funny how everything is shut down. If this had happened later in the season would it had made a difference in shutting things down? People up north always joke about us southerners shutting down when we get just a little snow. So how will this effect you guys now and on into winter? Take care, stay warm and dry as best you can.

Re: Bad, Bad, Bad Snow Storm Here!!!

We've had snow here in Maryland, south of the Mason-Dixon,in October twice that I can recall...but not a blizzard! This one was high winds AND a whole lot of snow. It would paralyze any place anytime, but in October? The term "caught with your pants down" comes to mind. And,this heat back east is yet another fluke.

Trust me, it seems like people up north still get totally confused each and every year when the first snowfall happens in the fall. We know it's coming, we've known for years that it's coming, and we just had snow 5 months ago, yet it still comes as a shock to everyone and they drive like they've never seen snow in their life before.

It's somewhat comical, yet somewhat annoying at the same time.

I know snow is coming, and when it hits I'm going to go out and have fun fishtaling and driving my truck like a yahoo while it's slippery out

I think they know its coming, but don't expect to get 44 inch's of it the first round. Isn't that a record or something.

Did you know that we have had measurable snow in every month of the year here in NC?

We have according to the people who know...up on top of Mt Mitchell (the highest peak east of the Mississippi River).

Hope things have improved for yall up there.

There was over a foot of snow on the ground in a few places here in NC last October...though not quite this early in October.

Lord we had snow here at one time.....? Wow. Can't recall what that looks like. I've heard that before. I remember a time when we got snow that was more than a dusting. I also remember power going out and eating beans forever. It's been a long time since those days. It wasn't too long ago I uncovered some old reel to reels that belonged to my great aunt. In them was some footage of snow and lots of it. Funny seeing those old movies and the kids playing in the snow and dogs trying to get out of the snow. Although three years ago we got right much snow at Christmas though....lol.

Love going up there in the summer. You've got to go to Colorado to get higher.

Re: Bad, Bad, Bad Snow Storm Here!!!

Just got home from Rapid City yesterday! Was on the way to Gillette, WY to hunt antelope. Left Friday morning at 2:45 am in torrential rain. Almost missed the on-ramp. Checked into Super 8 around 1 pm. Lost power around 3 pm. Couldn't even get out of the hotel lot to another one until Sunday. Checked into the Hampton Inn Sunday for one good night before heading home Monday.

There is a Philipps 66 in the same lot that had backup generator. The employee had 1 hour of sleep between Friday and Sunday when he had a new hire help a bit on Saturday. But he was keeping it open and letting people charge phones.

This was about 25 miles east of Rapid City, 12:45 pm Friday.
