Best Static Drop Options

I have a 1984 Chevrolet SWB. I am looking to do a static drop. I would like to run 20" wheels. I would like to keep my drop around a 4/6 or 5/7. I was wondering what drop components will provide the best ride quality and with what components. I really like the look of a 5/7 if i can maintain a good ride quality. I would also like to know what wheel combinations i could use with this as far as backspacing and sizes. Any information you could provide and pictures would be appreciated.

Re: Best Static Drop Options

I have about a 4/6-5/7 drop on my truck. It rides really nice. I use 3" drop spindles and cut 1 coil off for the front and used a flip kit in the rear. You might have to also use drop shackles for a 7 inch drop in the rear. If you use shackles and flip kit you will probably need to do a notch on the frame but if you only do a flip kit you most likely won't need to notch the frame, depending on how much drop the flip gives you exactly.

Re: Best Static Drop Options

I used a flip kit in the rear, 3 inch drop spindles and 1 ring cut off of the factory coil springs. The truck rides great and handles much better than before. This setup is on my 73 step side with 20x10 Dayton wire wheels all the way around.

Re: Best Static Drop Options

Hey man, not far from you in Lorena, I havent done the drop on the 86 yet... We are getting ready to do a flip in the rear and 2.5" spindles and one coil cut up front. It should get me where I want to be as far as drop and will most likely be about where you want to be as well!

Re: Best Static Drop Options

You can't go wrong with McGaughey's 4.5 / 6 static drop kit.

Re: Best Static Drop Options

My trucks is down about 6/8 with Western Chassis parts with 255/35/20s in front & 275/35/20 in rear.

I've only had 2 occasions where the front tires rubbed the inner fenders but that was on big dips in the road at highway speeds.

Could you tell me the exact components you used for the 6/8 drop. I really like the look of your truck.

Re: Best Static Drop Options

Mine is about a 6/7. 3 inch springs and 3 inch spindles up front with flip kit and 2 inch shackles out back. It rides pretty good. I had to take the front fenderwells out, but i never drive it in the rain so it doesn't matter. Don't know about the backspacing on the wheels since there wasn't a choice with the Boss wheels.

I just put on my c-notch on my '75 c10 today. I have 2 inch shackles and flip kit. With my bed off and the factory bump stops and bump stop brackets removed the axle came about two inches from the frame (take in mind bed is still off) then I put the bed on and axle hit the frame. So I put on a c notch kit and axle sits perfectly in middle and doesn't hit bump stops in c notch at all.

So to answer that, yes you could just do a flip and be fine without having to notch, I did that for a while but wanted a little lower
