1971 C30 car hauler
I've been driving by this truck for acouple years now and have been waiting to find someone around so I could stop and ask about it. On my way home from work I finally saw some one out there. Apparently the old guy used the shop in the back ground for his race car garage and used this rig to haul the cars around. It is a 1971 c30 350v8 with a 4speed about the only obvious options is a factory tach. It has rust in the cab corners not all the way thru and in thepassenger rocker. It has been sitting since 97. The guy wants to sale it and says he will take 2000..I'm going back tomorrow to help him clean the garage out as he is getting kicked out after 20 years..thinkinh I'm gunna offer 1500....

Looks like it used to be a rental box truck (stickers on the glovebox and interior color) cool truck though

Re: 1971 C30 car hauler
Spent a about 6 hrs helping this old boy clean out his shop and bit the bullet on the truck. I offered him 1500 and it was mine. So when I get back for our family vacation in Maui (we leave monday) I will try to get the old girl. The shop was full of pontiac parts which I'm not familiar with and a ton is going to the scrapper and the dump. Sad as I'm sure there is some good stuff. He said the shop has been locked and not used in 20 years . There was a 442 olds that had been used as a circle track car and cut up to make it lighter that you would never do today. Can't wait to get a pic of 72 short box 4x4 on the back of the c30....

Holy hell, does anyone know what that particular green shade is on the interior? I actually kinda like the look of it (which is saying something cause I hate green normally) I like the Green/Black look of the interior and it gives me yet another idea for my truck..... Also, killer find!

Neat old truck you have there , I know an old fellow that used to race way back that still has his old 71 race car hauler .His is a bit rougher than yours but I enjoy stopping by from time to time to buy hubcaps from him and just bs with him. He is in failing health and enjoys the company .If I could I would love to have his hauler but I have too many now.

Re: 1971 C30 car hauler
Wow dude, I love that interior green color too and I have just been DYING to drive a stick shift in the floor again.
I have no use at all for a C30 but I have have just been YEARNING for one after coming to this site. So CONGRATULATIONS for getting that thing at such a good price. Keep us posted if you do any restoring. Say, I'm a Pontiac man too (not really but I do own a minty '75 Bonneville). Does he happen to have a 455 V8 in there someplace that's complete? I've actually got a 4 barrelled Carter carb that's rebuilt that might fit it. What about any front grills, lights, etc. for the same? Would he be cool with me calling him on that subject? |

Re: 1971 C30 car hauler
Cool truck. I think it would be kinda scary with 2 cars sitting on top of that thing.

Nationwide Truck Rental, I think they only rented GM products. There logo was the elephants walking.

Re: 1971 C30 car hauler
I know its an old post but Nationwide used to use those setups to haul their trailers and trucks around for relocation and when one broke down. Not sure if the member kept it that way but I would have been tempted to.

Re: 1971 C30 car hauler
I missed this post earlier. Yeah, this is a National Car Rental EZ-Haul trailer shuttle. Nationwide had dark yellow/gold and off-white/creme trucks. You see U-Haul using these to transport trailers from store to store. It was likely bought and painted white Notice it has the 11,000# axle option where the rental truck shown was a lighter C/30... even cheezy two-hole rental/lease truck wheels

Re: 1971 C30 car hauler
what does he want for it considering 3 years ago he took 1500 but now it doesn't have the cluster so no tach and no proof of mileage on it. I like the truck but know with that 11k axle there is probably a 6.17 gear in it so it would take quite a bit to make it a drivable truck. if it was cheap enough it may be worth shipping.

Re: 1971 C30 car hauler
He was willing to take the 1500...I guess the deal fell through...days later the cluster went missing....I do not know what a cluster is worth now...

Re: 1971 C30 car hauler
I ended up passing on the truck as the more I looked the more work it needed. It had not been moved for 20 + years and all the tires and brake lines and basically anything else rubber had turned to dust. There was more rust in the cab once I was able to open the doors and get a look. It was a cool old truck and I wish I had more money/time to bring it back to life but I passed. I had heard from the property owner that the dash had been stolen as we're friends but there was a ton of people up there messing around and his shop was broken into shortly after prompting him to put up gates and cameras. Thiefs suck.
