where can i find the sock for fuel sending unit

i got new gas tank for truck from uncle that never used it hes putting gas tank in frame, the one in truck was full of rust so i changed it with the one uncle had ,when i pulled fuel sending unit out sock fell apart so i was thinking its a new tank just put it back in, made it about 5 miles when i found out it had an animal of some sort in it sucked up alot of fur and messed up fuel pump and stopped up filter . i went to every local parts house and no sells the sock or sending unit

in the past i have bought generic one size fits all from my local autoparts stores/// i think i've gotten both from napa and carquest

I took the advise from, I believe it was Longhorn Man several years ago and left mine off and put a metal online filter on the frame before the fuel pump. This way I can replace it fairly easy -which I do every 6 months to a year along with the carb fuel filter.

The reasoning is that if the sock filter gets clogged, you won't know it and have to yank the whole sending unit out to check and/or replace it.
