Manual Steering boxes
Hello all,
I'm working on my 1952 1 ton, and I've been working on a V8 swap. Almost everything so far has fit with relatively no modification... almost. The original steering box and column can fit, but I won't have room for exhaust manifolds. I've been looking for a box lately, and I think I found one that will fit. I just had a few questions about it, and I figured you guys would be the people to ask! So I found this steering box on ebay, and they said it fit's c10's from the '70 to '87. Is this true? (so far, I've only seen them with power steering units) Where could I find one for a decent price? I can't afford $200 or $300 for a steering box and have the possibility it won't even work. (all the yards in my area that have the truck have power steering) Do you think I'm heading in the right direction? (I'd like to stay with manual steering) or is there an entirely different box that could work? Thanks |

Re: Manual Steering boxes
Here's a link to one way to do it.
Or you could keep the existing box and move the motor over an inch or so. http://www.chevytalk.org/fusionbb/sh...hp?tid/294884/ And here's a way to move your steering box over. http://53truck.ez15loan.com/howto/install-v8.htm And one more. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=426103 Last edited by geezer#99; 10-13-2013 at 06:17 PM. |

Re: Manual Steering boxes
Thanks for the reply.
I like the idea of bringing it closer to the cab. I've actually moved the motor over already by about an inch and a quarter.. I'd just like to clarify, I'm not coming on here just to ask about 47-59 frames and steering set ups. (that'd be pretty stupid considering there's a whole page for that) I was wondering is this steering box what gm actually used on C10's? How many trucks had manual steering, and is there anywhere that has these for sale at a decent price? Thanks, |

Re: Manual Steering boxes
Manual boxes like that were common up to 87. More so in the mid to late 60's. Junkyard would be the best bet but likely be worn out. You've likely seen rebuilt ones are a few hundred bucks.
Look here on the parts section for one. Or try this. http://www.car-part.com/ |
