New! 14" Baer Big Brake Kit - $999

New - 14" Big Brake Kit - $999

We have been working with Baer on a new brake kit for the C10's, which will be exclusively only through Pro Performance. This new brake kit will work with any factory disc brake spindle or factory style disc brake drop spindle, such as McGaughys, Early Classic, BellTech, etc. We feel this is an important feature of the brake system, because it doesn't require you to change spindles, and can use what you already have. You will receive a template and instructions on modifying your spindle, which requires cutting of the caliper "ears" and drilling and tapping for the caliper mounting bracket.

Note: Photos shown are preliminary mock up photos, 6-lug is not available. Only available in 5-lug.

Key Features:
1) No need to buy new spindles, just modify current spindles
2) Uses new calipers, not rebuilt
3) Precise machined hub
4) Laser cut mounting bracket
5) Fits in most 18" wheels and larger
6) Will work with most aftermarket wheels, since caliper offset is kept to a minimum.

Kit Includes:
- C5 Caliper - New (Not Rebuilt)
- 14" 1-Pc. Rotor, Drilled / Slotted with Directional Vanes (1.1" Thick)
- Machined Aluminum Hub - 5x5 Bolt Pattern
- Caliper Mounting Bracket
- All Necessary Hardware
- Brake Pads

Just wanted to let everyone know, that a matching rear 13" kit is already in the works.

Any info on the rear kit? Built in ebrake or not?

The rear kit will use a single piston caliper on a 1-piece 13" rotor. The plans are to offer it both ways, with an integrated e-brake on the caliper & without.

Re: New! 14" Baer Big Brake Kit - $999

The rear kit will be ready to ship early next week. We designed the rear kit so that no machining to the axle or rotor is required, since we actually use a truck rotor.

Photo of the front kit installed.

Re: New! 14" Baer Big Brake Kit - $999

I may be interested in a rear kit. I'm building a 59 GMC so I'm thinking of getting a 88-98 rear end, would the rear setup work?

This particular rear setup will not work because the axle housing flanges are different on the 88-98 axle. We will be working on the 88-98 in the future, but no ETA yet, and may be towards the end of the year.

I have now created a tech install article for the front and rear, so you can better see the steps to install this front kit.

Re: New! 14" Baer Big Brake Kit - $999

Good articles Travis. They are well documented with photographs with good explanations. The one item not covered was hooking up the rear parking brake. Will you be covering that?

Also, my 72 Suburban could use an upgrade. Would you recommend this system or perhaps another? It is a 3/4 ton and the previous owner installed drop spindles for a 1/2 ton by machining the ball joint tapered hole to fit. I haven't verified that yet with a visual inspection myself. Guessing I could verify what the spindle is, determine if the rear end / axles are correct for this application and move forward from there. With the 20 inch wheels it has more go than whoa.

Appreciate your thoughts.

Thank you. I have never really written anything like that before, so glad to hear the great feedback. We added the e-brake cables after we installed that kit, so I will be adding those next week. I will be installing them on my dad's truck during the Xmas holiday.

This kit is a good blend of performance and price. I think it will be a good fit for your setup, considering you have the dust shields bolt holes, and is a drop spindle for a 1.25" thick rotor. Assuming he used a 71-72 spindle and not a 73-87 that had a chance of being a 1.00" rotor version.

Let me know what you find out on the spindle and rear. If the rear was changed to a 1/2T rear, then more than likely it will be good. There are some older ones that had the press-on backing plate.

Any chance at hi-fi caliper upgrades - C6Z, CTSV, etc...?

Thank you Travis. I will determine what I actually have at some point in time...lotta project irons in the fire.

Not at the moment. Once we change to a Z06 caliper, it closes the price gap difference, from going to a Baer T4 caliper, which would be on par with the Z06 caliper. We might look at it in the future.
