Project Green Hornet
Hello all. Her is my baby. 1969 C10 V8 Auto, Daily driver. This is my third 67-72 chevy truck. Previously had 69 GMC 1 ton with the 305 V6 I drove for 15 years and a beater 72 C10 just out of high school. I purchased this truck in Maryland two weeks ago and towed it home to Ny. little hint, don't tow these with a brand X explorer for any amount of distance. Currently has a 1978 305 and Th350 in it that is pretty much whooped. Few rust spots in her but overall in great shape. Reads 68k on the odometer. Put a few hundred miles on it since I have had it and love it. Rides like a dream.
Just got back from dropping the 700R4 at the tranny shop, still undecided on the engine but will be a small block chevy. As for the body, I know she will get paint but unsure if I will stay stock or slam it with lime green and SS stripes on the hood. Time will tell what direction she heads. Going to start the tear down in a few weeks. Needs some minor cab mount repair and lower door skins to start.

Nice truck Hornet. Too bad for the door rust, that thing would look awesome just in its original paint!

IMO get rid of the rear bumper, put a stock bumper with a receiver hitch.
Put in a strong 350 (my preference is throttle body FI). And with the 700r you'll get great fuel mileage. Clean it up a bit and drive it.

I can deff see getting rid of that bumper and do have a hitch I can modify to fit. Thanks for the input.

Hey Bob !
Looks like a nice solid truck your starting off with. The 700R4 with an LS motor or TBI 350 would do the trick as far as MPG's go. The LS motors are a bit more pricey, but make good HP easily. My build started off with a TBI 350 / 700R4 but got a deal on a 383 that I just couldn't pass up. So much for the MPG..... "LOL" Gary

Big craigslist score tonight. Goodwrench 350 long block, 2 months old. Needs to be taken apart and cleaned due to it being uncovered in a barn. $300. STOKED!!!!

Well I discovered a little more about the Crate engine I picked up. Tore the heads off it this morning. It is .060 over with typical stock dish pistons. Motor has two different casting heads on it. Same chamber and valve size just different castings. One head has decent valve seat hieght while the other should have had new seats put in. Definitely isn't the new GM crate engine I thought it was but more like an Advanced auto special....... Bright side is I have a fresh bore and flat block to work with.
Been looking at these heads http://www.ebay.com/itm/SBC-CHEVY-21...79a01f&vxp=mtr Over the top of a decent flat top piston, headers with a decent intake and 600cfm carb. Now to hunt the rest of the parts down. Local swap meet coming up in November.

Tranny shop called today, My 700 is ready to be picked up. Fresh rebuild with upgraded parts and a new TC.

Little update on the parts collecting. I picked up my trans today all ready to go. 700r4 with 2800 stall converter. Shift kit and lock up all wired to go. Sunday I will have my heads for the 350. Found a set of 041 heads ready to bolt on. Should have the cam by the end of the week. Cam Dynamics 10007 480 lift/ 228 duration. Sticking with the dish pistons for now. If I want more then I will build a new lower end with flat tops. Going with the Edelbrock Performer RPM intake. So stoked to get this together. Should be a fairly stout small block. Feels good to be wrenching on an old chevy again.

More parts trickling in. Holley 650 and the gasket kit. New rings will be here tomorrow. Giving the block a quick hone and a fresh set of rings to start out with.

Motor is coming along nicely. Completely disassembled it, gave the cylinders a hone for a fresh surface to seat the new rings, new main bearings after I found a small amount of galling on one of them. Only a little bit of assembly left and the lower end will be complete. I can then move on to checking the heads to make sure the new cam will swing happily. Taking my time as winter is setting in, time to put the old girl away till better weather. Gives me time to get parts and a plan together.
