Anyone replace foam on bench seat?

I have a 1970 C10 with the spring suspension seat and I would like to replace it with the full depth foam cushion. Has anyone ever converted their spring suspension seat to full foam. LMC and others sell the foam but I'm not sure what the differences are in the seat frame.

Not sure what you mean. The stock bench seats have rows of flat springs with foam on top of that. If you remove the springs, there's no bottom to the seat for the foam to rest on, and you'll fall through

The two seats are different. YOu need a frame designed for full foam. That's why they usually bring a little more money than a spring seat.

Yes there is a difference in the seat spring it self that determines full foam vs. standard. Please excuse the photo quality

Re: Anyone replace foam on bench seat?

From the photos I have looked at, I think the frames are the same, if not very very close. The difference appears to be in the type of springs used. The flat zig-zag springs make up the bottom of the full foam bench, vs. the curved springs in the regular seat.

That being said, you would probably be better off finding a junked full foam seat and rehabbing it.

Re: Anyone replace foam on bench seat?

Thanks for the replies guys. Musicmans post clears it up considerably. The way I look at it any seat 43 years old is going to need some refurbishing, so maybe I will order the full foam cushion and see if I can make it work. I don't mind having to do some fabrication so I can probably do something to make it work.

There's a guy on here thats maybe 5'9/10, and he complained that after replacing his foam, his head was up near the roof lol. Just be prepared to shave some off if need be

Yeah, and keep in mind that new foam on the seat back that's too thick can push you closer to the steering wheel, to where some guys have complained of belly fitment issues. I'm not trying to discourage you. Just saying to test fitment, because having your head up by the roof, with your belly rubbing on the wheel can't be too comfortable

i even had a 5'10 140 pound friend with no beer belly to climb in behind the wheel only to complain of "too close to everything" mostly complaining of no leg room.. it was as if the seat was slid all the way foward! still havent found a fix!
