Talking Who's got the lowest rear gears!?

Who has the lowest gears guys? Post your gears and motor/tranny info and see how you fall in with everyone else. Low and lowered would be even better! (Was Jim Carey in that one?)

Hmm, I know I don't have 4.88's! That's wicked! I know I have either something like 4.10's or 4.56's, I'm not sure. 327 with a TH-400. I'm looking into swapping a TH-350 trans in there.

I plan to put lower gears (have 3.08 right now) in my 69 as soon as I get my Saturn SC1 (gas miler), but don't know what direction to take as far as the ratio to go with.

So anybody with 3.73 or 4.10's, post your opinion of weather you like them or not.

Well, I'm pretty sure I have 4.11's and I hate them. I think 3.73's would be best for me... a nice mix between torque, RPMs and gas mileage.

I have 4:10's right now in my truck, I figured they were like 3:73's until I acutally tested it out... My setup is 350/TH400.

3.73's...originally with a 3-speed, then a THM400, and now a 700R4. Oh, and 28" tires. Without OD, it was more or less a town-cruiser...75+ for extended periods of time was a bit much. With OD, though...80-85 at a bit over 2500RPM is just fine.

Is there any gearing between 3.07 and 3.73? Got 3.07 right now but would like to find something more mid-range.

Southpa, look at the 73 up trucks & you will find a 3.40 gear in some. It wont be a bolt in, but you can weld There are a couple vendors that sell a weld in kit to install the later rear diff in the 67-72s. Good luck, crazyL

Thanks CL,. I'd like to kill 2 birds w/ one stone. Would the whole 73 up 3.40 rear end fit my 1970 (coils)? Gotta switch from 6 lug to 5 lug anyway.

Well, according to the online RPM calculators, I'm almost positive I've got 4.56 gears. They're great off the line

I had 4.56's in my one owner 72 Cheyenne 4x4 I sold 2 years ago. It was beyond me that I got 14mpg out of them when I have had 3.08's and only got 10mpg in another truck.
