project rust bucket
I've been working on this truck for almost 4 years. It has been a complete ground up build. Frame has been completely redone, swapped in a 6bt cummins Auto w/od all new replacement panels, brakes, suspension, interior. you name ive done it, Except for making the driveshafts, engine mounts and crossmember. This was a project with a specific purpose. I needed a second plow truck, and I couldn't afford to buy a new truck at 50,000.00 plus. So, I built what I wanted and could afford. All done with the new plow and sander she cost about half the price of a new truck. I always liked the squarebody trucks, they are bulletproof and parts are plentiful. I have tons of pics and as soon as I can I will put together a build thread.

Re: project rust bucket
Looks pretty sharp! Yeah post up some more pics when you get time and any info on the cummins swap would be useful too. That is something I would like to do to my 84 K30 sometime down the road. What trans did you end up going with?

Re: project rust bucket
Awesome job. I've been thinking about doing something similar for a while now as a daily driver. I'd much rather spend the money to put a modern drive train in an older vehicle with some class. There is a rock quarry in IL where I'm originally from that has been restoring their old hauling trucks kind of like what you did. The owners of the quarry restored their '50's and '60's dump trucks and got back into delivering with them. Obviously they don't haul as much as their newer trucks can, but they get lots of requests to have them deliver in the old trucks.

Re: project rust bucket
This is kind of the direction I am going with the trucks I bought. I am trying to get to where I can get rid of my two newer trucks. That is what the intentions were with the last two K30's I bought. Going back to driving the older stuff for awhile. I like the concept.

Re: project rust bucket
Thanks for the compliments, I appreciate it! I will put together a build thread for sure. I like the new trucks, my daily is an 06 gmc 2500 duramax and it has been a real good truck, I just couldn't justify the cost of a new truck to be used for plowing and occasional use.
