serious horsepower, 600rwhp, and flip kits...anyone?

I'm looking to lower my truck, and looking at investing into a flip kit. I see most flip kits are just a piece of chanel iron, and didn't look to sturdy.

I was thinking of cutting off a set of spring perches off of an old rear end, and attaching them to the bottom of my rear end, is this nessesary? Will the "u" thing be enough?

I will be using a set of cal-trac bars also.

Any input is welcome.

Thanks

David

You should use weld on spring perches if your going to have any serious HP, I have seen the stock spring perches torn off with the use of flip brackets.

My 400hp small block did this with hardly any traction. So what are looking to achieve other than swift death?

I welded on spring perches. Really I think it's the only way to go for any flip

Re: serious horsepower, 600rwhp, and flip kits...anyone?

I don't know what kind of flip kit that was, who designed it or what it cost, but I think my 4 year old daughter could have designed something better. I'd be pissed off for paying a company to put that on my truck. I have a Western Chassis flip kit on my truck and its built and designed heavy duty. This isn't my tuck in the LINK , but its the same kit I have. You can see the difference in design. I've had it stand up to the stress when I was supercharged with no issues. If the flip kit you get looks like the one Insidious put on his truck return it... that looks like some home cobbled stuff and I cant believe a company would sell that, it just looks unsafe!

I've noticed your pics of those trashed flip brackets in various threads. I'm curious if you felt they would be strong enough when you installed them? There's no way I would utilize a bracket like that on a flip kit since there's nothing tying the 'legs' of the bracket together w/the base Like the units Jabes linked in his post). Seems way to flimsy regardless of how thick the material is.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Quality flip brackets are much more than a basic channel like that. Look at a Bell Tech or Western Chassis...you will see the difference. I am making 525HP at the flywheel, have Cal Tracs, and have had no issues with my Western Chassis flip kit.

At that point I didn't have much money or a welder. Everyone else seemed to like djm stuff. I looked the kit up and nothing bad but maybe a need for drop shocks. So I got the kit with shock extenders. I figured half inch steel should be good. Nope. They bent like putty. After watching a video on YouTube of djms shop tour all I see is them taking cheap mild steel and using it to make stuff. Any quality heat treated steel with any more precision than a plasma cutter they would prob work ok. I've since put welded mopar perches on and haven't had any issues.

DJM isn't the only place selling flip brackets like those so I hope people do their research before spending their money. I guess the lesson here for others once again is cheap & doing it over correctly is usually more expensive vs. spending more up front for better parts.

Yah. And sorry about the misinformation but its 3/4 inch steel if that means anything to anybody.

Here's some more djm screwing for you guys. My buddy got a set just the other week and figures I would share. Imagine this getting in your wheel bearings!

I bought a pair of perches at my local circle track shop for $8 each. A lot easier than cutting a pair off an axle.

The only difference I see between those and the WC or Beltechs is the support plates welded to either side. So if anyone has some like this and is worried about strength I suppose a set of supports could be welded on easily enough.

Of course, if you can weld then why not go ahead and put on new perches, which is the better solution.

FWIW, I had the same type as these from Specialty Retail and they held up to a few hard launches from over 550 ft. lbs. of torque before I pulled them off and replaced with welded perches. I just didn't feel like gambling any longer.
