Question Question for the board - steering columns..

Is there a difference in splines or shaft diameter between the tilt and non-tilt columns on 67-72 trucks? What about the 73 and up trucks?

Re: Question for the board - steering columns..

If the shafts were different, the wheels would not interchange. I dont know about 73 up though.

That's my experience also, just thought I would see if I was missing something.

Hey Rob, In all my poking around I found no difference in shaft dia. Don't know about 73+, maybe the square guys could answer that.

Re: Question for the board - steering columns..

Same as the above guys said. Just did a swap myself from the non-tilt one piece shaft to a two piece tilt and they were the same.

Re: Question for the board - steering columns..

Do you mean where the steering wheel goes? that spline is the same from Gm through it whole line from the 60's until the mid 90's or until the use of driver side air bag. Even then as the wheel turned square but they are so ugly they don't count. That is why a lot of people use the wheel off of the chevy/GMC trucks from the late 80's early 90's on their 67-72's, and btw they look great on there. Also so does the Monte Carlo SS 2 spoke split wheel, my fav. Jim
