67 c-10....327 to 454 swap

i just put this thing in with the 327's engine mounts... first thing the harmonic balancer pully sits on the x member... second drivers side exhaust wont clear..

Will the clamshell style mount and stand give me more clearance? will they bolt on or do i drill new holes?

any one know of what mounts i could use to gain clearance??

I'll help with what I know. You will need big block engine stands and mounts to use stock BB manifolds. The 1967's frame needs to be trimmed on pass side for the BB mounts. 68 was the first year for BB's in the trucks. There are 1968-1971 mounts and 1972 mounts which are clamshells. Some guys adapt the 1973 and up clamshells to work. Oh welcome to the board.

I just put a 402 in my 67. You need the bb mounts and chances are you will need to clearance your frame to match 68-72. Since 67 never came with a big block the frame is wider. When they started putting the 396 in trucks in 68 they made the frame rails thinner to allow for exhaust clearance. Here's a pic where I made cuts to my frame.

Re: 67 c-10....327 to 454 swap

I'm doing the exact same thing. 1967 with a 454. I'm running the performance online tubular mounts. They are designed to move the engine slightly forward for hei distributor clearance and using the forward most holes in the frame. So I tried that and the big block was just sitting way too far forward. Lucky for me that I have a 68' with a big block so I was able to take a bunch of reference measurements off it.
You will need to loosely assemble the mounts on the engine and set the the motor in the frame. I actually unbolted my trans mount so it was loose in the frame and would slide back and forth with the trans bolted to it. Now you will be able to slide the whole assembly back and pretty much locate it as close to the firewall as you want. Mine worked out to be about an inch back from where the tubular mounts were intended to bolt in.
Hope that helps. Feel free to message me if you have questions. Look back thru my post history and there are some good photos of my engine sitting in the frame with my new hedman headers.

Yes. Piece of cake. You'll be able to put it exactly where you want it.

I'm pretty sure that cast iron manifolds would work too. I held a set of mid 70's smog 454 manifolds on there and they cleared the mounts.

I had to do the same thing with POL's tubular mounts. I had to move mine back 1 inch also. Once I did that everything fit great. Im running chevellle bbc headers and they are a good with out any mods.

Interesting... I bought a set of el-cheapo chevelle headers off ebay. They were $165 coated. I got the passenger side to fit but the driver's side rubbed the motor mount. I wrote it off as crappy headers. I more reputable header brand might have made a difference... obviously since yours fit.

These things were so crappy that they ceramic coated right over the dings. No packing in the box...shipped all the way from china with them rubbing each other so there were scratches everywhere.

Bought a set of Hedman 69170 headers and they fit with ease.
