Front suspension swap? 3/4 to 1/2

My truck is a 69 2 wheel drive 3/4 ton with 8 lug drum brakes. I want to swap to 5 lug with disc brakes. do I have to swap the cross members? Or can I just swap out spindles are springs?

You can keep most of it. Look at POL they make conversion drop spindles. You would need to change the spindles and brakes only.

That's easy enough. But is the 3/4 parts heavier? since I plane on racing this, weight is an issue. I am swapping a big block, I need to figure out what springs to use.

If I was putting a big block in I would keep the 3/4 ton springs. I doubt the parts are any heavier. If you want lighter then switch to tublar arms

Re: Front suspension swap? 3/4 to 1/2

I am thinking the springs might be to "tight" building a drag truck. Obviously, Moroso doesn't make drag racing front springs, but need to find something similar.

Re: Front suspension swap? 3/4 to 1/2

The 3/4 ton truck is heavier in much of the undercarriage. The frame itself is thicker, the rear springs, the entire rear axle assembly, etc.
It would be far easier to start with a lighter truck than to put yours on a diet.....weight loss is free horsepower and anything you could remove from a 3/4 ton truck you could take from the 1/2 ton too, and it's lighter to begin with.
