you are brave. I don't let the dealership touch my new cars any more, never mind my 70.

Re: fun messing with dealer ships oil change department
Ha! had to call an old guy in.... That kinda cracks me up. Did you get it on video?
Some newer cars have cartridge type filters too. My wife's RAV4 V6 has a cartridge type filter. I let Toyota do the changes while it was under warranty. Now I do them. It amazed me that they could do an oil change faster than I could drain the old oil. We'd wait in line for 60 minutes, they'd bring the car in and bang 15 minutes later it was out. They washed it and did paperwork in that 15 minutes too....

Re: fun messing with dealer ships oil change department
The last few years that I worked in dealerships, I was the "Old guy" that they would call in. If anything with a carburetor or distributor came into the shop, they were lost. Most of these kids had never even seen a carburetor.

Re: fun messing with dealer ships oil change department
That stuff is funny..... I took mine about a month ago too and had a similar experience. They got it in the stall and they called me out to ask where to check the oil.. then asked me where to fill it as well??? LMAO!

Re: fun messing with dealer ships oil change department
If you guys have your oil changed, what do you do about lubrication. Greasing all the fittings on these are critical. I do my own but I wonder about the Jiffy-lube guys. You know they don't know were all the fittings are.

Re: fun messing with dealer ships oil change department
Its possible to change oil in 15 minutes. The key is a lift, not lubing the chassis and not actually letting Ll of the old oil drain out!

Re: fun messing with dealer ships oil change department
I promised "the old guy" at the Honda shop I'd bring the truck over when it's running so he could see it.
Actually, the shop won't take such an old vehicle! Great shop though, I don't trust Sears with my oil changes anymore. Along that same line as the OP, the radiator shop that renewed my tank, the owner and I got to talking, he said "my newer guys can't even drive a manual! I have to get the older guys to drive those trucks when we do get them in here." He also said (Honda "old guy" confirmed) that GM no longer makes a "work truck" everything now has AC, auto tranny, and carpet. |

Re: fun messing with dealer ships oil change department
I used to be 'the old guy that knows'- only because I've been around long enough to have the tools and the knowledge. I got metric and British tools early on, and saw all the 'furrin' stuff', for quite awhile. I'm pretty well-versed in the new stuff, and I marvel at the changes and improvements. That being said, I would never take any of my iron into a dealership or quick-lube place. It's pretty hard to find a guy like me in a shop anymore, and I'm retired (at least semi-retired, still doing English bike and old German stuff, for a select clientele).
