62 C10 original Hubcaps

I have been browsing the threads here for a while looking for info on original hubcaps for my 62 C10 SB step-side. Found some pictures of the originals and apparently just missed a near perfect set being sold for a very reasonable price. Since I seem to be having a problem finding a set in really good condition does anyone know of a place where I could send a less than perfect set to get them refurbished? I have seen some painted, dented etc. caps on eBay that I can get for a few bucks but I really want a nice set to put on the truck when I get it ready. As always any advice / hints / warnings / threats / concerns will be greatly appreciated.

Re: 62 C10 original Hubcaps

Nice truck crhyno, Unfortunately, ebay is your best shot. Good you started looking now because it might be awhile. A 62 chrome hubcap in good condition can be bid over $100 and the picture of the hubcap and description can be misleading. So get a good monitor and look closely. I have been looking for some chrome caps for mine for a year now and have 3 out of 5. You should also look on craigslist and visit some old school junkyards. The steel caps are much easier to find, you could try some painted caps on your black truck, it might look good, Do you have the clip style or push on?
Good thread on oem hubcap here. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...hlight=hubcaps

Re: 62 C10 original Hubcaps

Hi Whippensaw
I was suspecting that eBay might be my best source. Saw a set of what I think are the originals (chrome dish with red emblem) sell for $600 a few months ago. Mine are the push on style and I think the wheels are original. If I can find a set in great condition I will pay what is needed but it is looking like I will have to find a set in 'some' condition and find someone to do some resto work. Thanks for the reply.

Re: 62 C10 original Hubcaps

When shopping for them pay close inspection to the cracks in the side walls. A very common issue. Dents can be fixed much easier than cracks or tears in the sidewalls. Happy hunting....

Hi
Thanks for all of the responses. The picture helps a lot as I was not 100% sure what they looked like. Now I just have to find some for sale.

Re: 62 C10 original Hubcaps

Hi
I found a set of caps advertised as original 62 but they do not look like the pic posted by 60-66 above. Can anyone tell me if these would be original equipment on a 62 C10? Thanks

No those in the picture are not for a 62 chevy truck.

These are 4 of 5 however, I have, though they are not perfect. One is cracked on the side. Driver quality. 10 3/16 diameter for wheels with nubs. Though your most likely looking for painted to match your grille and bumper. All the painted ones I have would need restoration.

Re: 62 C10 original Hubcaps

When searching for caps on Ebay try " 60's Chevrolet " or " chevy poverty " or chevy dogdish" in the search box. A lot of times the seller doesn't know the application.

Hi Aerotruk63
Thanks for the answers, but I have another question: why are they called 'poverty'?

Re: 62 C10 original Hubcaps

I assume they nickname small hubcaps "poverty" because they are not a full wheel cover.

I think the name came from the passenger cars that came with small caps. They were the most inexpensive, least optioned cars such as the Biscayne.
