Best place to buy power steering pump?

I have 2 different pumps floating around here. 1 is very noisy, and the 2nd started leaking.

I tried getting just a pump from NAPA before and installing one of my reservoirs, and their pump was louder than the bad one I have and I could not get it to stop leaking.

I'd prefer to get a new one rather than a rebuilt (if possible), and I 'd like to have the reservoir included. Anybody had success?

I tried the local places and nobody has one with the reservoir available. I saw pumps on GMC Paul's, Classic Parts, and Classic Heartbeat. Just looking for somebody with some feedback.

They are not that hard to rebuild. I might try taking the leaking one and building it myself. If that fails, some of the Corvette restorers do good jobs on pumps. Might try Lonestar Calipers

or Vettebrakes

I would have started with NAPA but sounds like you already went that route.

NAPA is hit or miss with a lot of stuff. They can get it but you might not want what you get- electrical especially it seems....

I buy new seal kits and reseal leaky pumps. The way I see it, you know it works well and is quiet, so repair the leaks and put it back on.

I get the seal kits from O Reilly or Rockauto. They're pretty cheap.

I just bought an rebuilt AC delco one. Haven't had it that long but is working fine so far. It has the reservoir and got it from rock auto. It was like $55 or something around there and that included the core charge. I always get AC delco when I can. I can prob get the part # if you need it.

Re: Best place to buy power steering pump?

I got a rebuilt one earlier part of the year from local auto parts store and haven't had any problems with it. Problem is that the reservoirs aren't new and they tend to be banged up some.

If yours is in otherwise good shape, do as Tx Firefighter mentioned and rebuild it. I did one that was leaking and wasn't that hard to do. There's some videos on youtube on how to do it.

Here's one I found from newer vehicle but it's similar.

Re: Best place to buy power steering pump?

My problem has been getting the reservoir to seal to the pump. I think my reservoir is just too beat up.

Thanks for the additional ideas!!!

Re: Best place to buy power steering pump?

Find something round to use as a dolly inside of the reservoir while you use a body hammer on the outside. Then just try to use old school hammer and dolly work to straighten the reservoir. I've even walked outside the shop and used the hitch ball on the back of my truck as a big round dolly before.
